Just wondering how the transition was going for the 744 guys onto other aircraft? I'm in the Cadet hold pool and was told the reason for the 12 month hold on recruitment was to free up sim spots for the people transitioning out of the 744. If that is the actual reason I was wondering if anyone would speculate if it will be completed by the end of the year?

No idea of the official line, but I suspect it's a combination;

Early retirement of the 744.

744 crews transitioning to other types as a result of #1

Reduced long haul flying schedule at present, as part of cost cutting.

That said, there are plenty of jets arriving, and net growth, despite the jumbo going. With that in mind, I'll wager there will be plenty of recruitment in the next 24 months; just a reduced rate right now, until the full schedule is reinstated, and a few new jets arrive.

6 x 744s leaving this year, plus the BCFs have/are being withdrawn, I think a couple of A340/330 leases are up too.

Net gain for this year is only 3 or so I believe.
