Kenya aircraft crash 24th Feb 2013?

does anybody of you know about a small plane crash in Kenya today?

Cessna or similar aircraft?

If so, please pass on some information.

Unfortunate coincidence of aircraft types and accidents, but Jean-Patrick Suraud, an ecologist working as a park manager in the Republic of Congo, died in an Aeroprakt crash in August 2012 in ZA.

I was on a trip with John last December for 2 weeks almost around the whole world. We spent day and night together, he will really be missed.

Was supposed to meet him last week before they continued to Africa.

Very sad.

There's a bitter irony in the latest rumour - that Anthony was flying John up to Lake Michaelson (@13,000') to photograph old plane wrecks on the mountain.

At the moment with the current really hot weather we're having, there is a LOT of turbulence even at lower altitudes - never mind on the side of a mountain. At that sort of altitude there would not be a lot of performance left in the Foxbat in order to fly away from any bumps/downdrafts etc. Otherwise I am sure they would have just put down somewhere (even if far from ideal) and survived the crash.

Its very sad this happened. Mt Kenya has claimed a lot of planes/pilots/passengers over the years.

A shocking, needless and avoidable loss of life to make an entertainment TV doc.

What was an conservationist with a Phd doing piloting an aerial filming flight with a professional cameraman for an entertainment show apparently unrelated to him or his profession???

From an insurance and aviation perspective was the flight legal?

At what elevation was the wreck found? some say near the airport others at 14000ft??

As to location,

"Nanyuki — A conservationist who was piloting an aircraft was killed alongside a Canadian journalist when the plane crashed in Mount Kenya forest on Monday.

The aircraft owned by Laikipia Wildlife Forum crashed in the forest due to bad weather, according to Yellow Club East Africa chairman Rob Linck who witnessed the crash.

"There were strong winds and the aircraft was small and therefore it could not manoeuvre its way through the turbulence," said Linck."

Linck is a serious fixed/rotary wing pilot, and if he saw it, this is simply how it happened. Probably in a telephone interview Aero Club was transformed into Yellow Club, though I'm not sure he's the chair.
