..closest I ever heard of was at Deci. An F-18 missed an F-16 by ISTR 18 feet, with over Mach 2 closure, and neither saw the other. They used to play it to everyone as a warning.

I always liked this one. Really Low Flying Jet Fighters - Video (http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1142012/really_low_flying_jet_fighters/)

French? The best part is at 2:22 when they fly by their version of the Chief standing there watching these going on muttering "you gents better not break any of my airplanes--I don't have the parts on this deployment to get 'em fixed!"

As well at 3:08 when lead and two come in at nosebleed heights so three follows up a bit lower...

It's a strip at Mary River in Canada. I think it was blown backwards in that instance, but the Mighty Twotter is capable of reversing.

I suppose this is my favourite 'you tube' ever. Watched it scores of times.
It takes a little watching as the real action is over in seconds, or fractions thereof.

It's said that the US ABM effort was equivalent to the Apollo program. I've a rough idea how they did Apollo, but no idea how they managed 'Safeguard'.

Rough stats to illustrate the dynamics:
Missile acceleration? Roughly 100G.
First stage burn duration? 1.2 seconds
Missile allegedly supersonic before leaving the silo. :uhoh:
Missile nose red hot from air friction one second after launch.
You get the picture? Staggering stuff from the late sixties..
The whole kit and kaboodle built, then commissioned, then decommissioned after ONE DAY!

As Solid Rust Twotter wrote, it's Mary River' strip in Nunavut, Canada.

I went to check it on Google Earth, they used the apron patch for their "landing" Or if you prefer, landed pretty much perpendicular to the gravel rwy .
