Whats going on with Flybe are the engineering staff safe to keep the planes safe???????????????????

Flybe have some of the best engineers around for the types we operate,for years we have been left to feel unwanted by the airline and have had no real advancements or investment in our environment. Finally they have made their choice and will outsource all line maintenance. The q400 fleet will suffer under this move as if its not bad enough already! As for the guys who are left over from this it's going to be tough knowing the company is trying to find companies to outsource too.

If it's possible to see a bright side, it's that Flybe's enginers will have qualifications, authorisations and experience that the outsourcing companies will need very badly.
If I were in Flybe feeling vulnerable, I would start talking to all the companies in the frame for outsourcing.

I hope that's an exaggeration! All of it?!
If that is the case with the outsourcing then the race to the bottom is nearly finished, good luck to those affected.

It is a FACT. All line engineering to be outsourced.
As one of those engineers who received his "90 days notice (at risk) letter today I can assure you ALL line engineering to be outsourced.
A sad way to make my first post.

Dont easyjet outsource 90% of theirs?
The only time I have seen Easy Line Engineers is at LTN.
Every other airport I've been on where they op from, has been 3rd party. SRTechnics etc...

Easy have their own hangar and line maint operation at LTN, all other bases are outsourced I believe, LGW line by SRT and hangar maint by some red-tailed outfit....
Apologies for the thread drift above.
Are the guys at Exeter safe or is the axe falling there too? Can TUPE not be applied to this if the work is outsourced to a provider? Not sure how the law works in that respect.

Exeter are being hit hard too. At the senior sup level and anybody below fitter1. Allegedly, if you beleive the people in the hangar, but why would they tell porkies??
Some bases may need a new hi viz vest with a crown on it too.....:oh:

Why on earth would monarch wish to get mired in with a airline who appear to be on the cusp of sadly going down the pan, and have no experience whatsoever of the types flybe operate.

Maybe, just maybe, there maybe a large amount of engineers on market soon with vast amounts of experience on those types. They already have approval on the shiney jets for Malaga.
Its only a short walk from the existing hangar to the proposed new hangar. The existing hangar is only there by the skin of its teeth, a good storm would sort it out for good!
I can fit one more maybe in if you wish.
Good luck to all involved. For what its worth, another very large British Airline is also outsourcing its line maintenance.

As mentioned the deal for TUPE at MAN, EMA, BHX and LGW is almost complete (1 may). Rest assured monarch are a new big player in the MRO industry. It's the skill set and qty of LAE which is the real reason for their interest. A 10 bay hanger and Boeing gold care 787 facility opens in BHX nov 13. Recruiting such vast numbers of a specific and highly regulated skilled work force would be huge undertaking and near impossible. Flybe contract puts 80 engineers at BHX alone into their facility. That is still only a proportion of the 300 potential staff required at BHX.
A very good move for existing FB engineers. There has been no direction or investment in FB line maintenance for a few years now. The Q4 fleet continues to suffer and will only get worse now. BHX is Flybe' main assurance policy for defect rectification and trouble shooting. They have just removed their primary and most important resource. Time will tell but industry history shows this is a slippery slope for FB.
