Lots of scuttlebutt from the refueler, engineering course in Wagga.

I guess the Saab 340s can't fly forever.

Dash not a contender? Is the ATR that much better an airframe?

Maybe they have seen that in 5 years time the Virgin ATR's will be on all of their fat profit making routes so if you cant beat them- join them!

If its 72's they are looking at Keg, then they burn about 60-70% of the fuel a q400 burns for the same sector and pretty much same pax uplift.

As long as they don`t encounter ice.

Yobbo,

Have you flown ATRs? Or are you making the same uninformed comments most make?

Yobbo,

so your saying if the ATR encounters ice, it no longer is more fuel effecient with the same load as the Q400?

Last I heard DJ to buy XR dump the ATR and replace with F100.
Rex to buy the ATR's at a cracking rate

Who are they gunna sell the SAAB's to? Or just trade them in?

falconx, you have a wonderful track record of not knowing what you're talking about, your latest post seems equally as dubious...

WHAT IF:

Rex purchase the ATR to replace the Saab.

Then Virgin purchase Rex.

What a game changer. :ok:

Why would Virgin buy Rex (and the liability of its fleet of vintage planes), when they can develop the existing ATR operation to compete against them?

It's all about keeping your friends close, and your enemies even closer ;)

Besides, Rex is a good source of pilots for VA. Or a source of good pilots for VA :)

The ATRs arent going anywhere. Apparently JB said at a staff roadshow that they ATR operation is doing really well.

There are 3 aircraft types that will be leaving the Skywest fleet and they are the A320( gone with 12-18 months), F50 (within 2 years if not sooner) and the F100 (gone with 4 years if not sooner).

The ATR will not only increase in numbers on the East coast they will also replace the F50's on the West coast. Ejet's will be replace the F100's and who flies them will depend how the EBAs at VA and XR work out. The 737's will replace the A320(s).

if rex were ever going to get bigger planes then they'd have to clean out the small minded individuals that run(down) their flight ops dept first, starting at the top.
then they might have a chance.:ugh:

They could flog all the SAAB's to the doods presently flying Cheiftains. That would ensure we'd have at least one working model left for a museum :ok:

Didn't Rex used to be Kendall and/or Hazelton? I seem to remember trampsing about the state in all of the above at some stage or another....I also seem to remember they had CJ200's at one stage which were then leased off to someone O/S....

Maybe the lease is up and the CJ's will be making a comeback....No, I haven't heard anything from anyone at Rex that I might know.....I'm just throwing it out there in the good old Aussie Australia Day spirit of rumour mongering....

Do they have the pilots for it? Last I heard, they are a dozen of captain short with many FOs unable to be upgraded.
