....through writing a reply to posts on a thread and thought to yourself "Sod it. I couldn't be bothered." ?

Seems that for the past year or so, I'm doing it more and more.

Oh well....

Used to have an early minicar that had a light that came on when I was half way there. No, it didn't matter how far I was going.

I normally write complete replies totally demolishing the arguments of the gun nuts and other rightwing loonies (actually they are all gun nuts).

Then I either (a) realise the futility of it or (b) get scared they'll come after me.

 Halfway gone, halfway gone

You were always hard to hold
So letting go ain't easy
I'm hanging on but growing cold
While my mind is leaving

Talk, talk is cheap
Give me a word you can keep
'Cause I'm halfway gone and I'm on my way
And I'm feeling, feelin' feelin' this way
'Cause I'm halfway in but don't take too long
'Cause I'm halfway gone, I'm halfway gone
You got one foot out the door
And choking on the other
Always think there's something more
Its just around the corner

Talk, talk is cheap
Give me a word you can keep
'Cause I'm halfway gone and I'm on way
And I'm feeling, feelin' feelin' this way
'Cause you're halfway in but don't take too long
'Cause I'm halfway gone, I'm halfway gone

If you want me out, then I'm on my way
And I'm feelin', feelin' feelin' this way
'Cause you're halfway in, but don't take too long
'Cause I'm halfway gone, I'm halfway gone (oh oh)
I'm halfway gone, I'm halfway gone (oh oh)
Now I'm halfway gone, I'm halfway gone
Don't take too long, don't take too long
'Cause I'm on my way
If you take too long
'Cause I'm halfway gone and I'm on way
And I'm feeling, feelin' I'm feelin' this way
'Cause you're halfway in but don't take too long
'Cause I'm halfway gone, I'm halfway gone

If you want me out, then I'm on my way
And I'm feelin', feelin' feelin' this way
'Cause you're halfway in, but don't take too long
'Cause I'm halfway gone, I'm halfway gone (oh oh)
'Cause I'm halfway gone, and I'm halfway gone (oh oh)
'Cause I'm halfway gone, yeah I'm halfway gone ........

OK, here we go, we got a real pressure cooker going here, Two down, nobody on, no score, bottom of the ninth,There's the windup, and there it is, a line shot up the middle,
Look at him go. This boy can really fly! He's rounding first and really turning it on now, he's not letting up at all, he's gonna try for second; the ball is bobbled out in center, and here comes the throw, and what a throw! He's gonna slide in head first, here he comes, he's out!

No, wait, safe-safe at second base, this kid really makes things happen out there. Batter steps up to the plate, here's the pitch-he's going, and what a jump he's got,he's trying for third, here's the throw, it's in the dirt-safe at third!

Holy cow, stolen base! He's taking a pretty big lead out there, almost daring him to try and pick him off. The pitcher glances over, winds up, and it's bunted, bunted down the third base line, the suicide squeeze is on!

Here he comes, squeezeplay, it's gonna be close....

Holy cow, I think he's gonna make it!

STOP RIGHT THERE!!!!

I often find myself starting a reply and then saying "f**k it, why bother."

Especially on the US Hamster Wheel thread where one often realizes that posting a reply is similar to conversing with ones' shoe.

posting a reply is similar to conversing with ones' shoe.

You may get a more sensible response out of the shoe rg.

I've just about given it up entirely.

Maybe it has run its course. :bored:

I actually use that as a test before posting on a forum. If my attention wanders or I lose interest, that's a sign that I don't really have anything to contribute. So it's better that I don't waste any more time on it - mine or anyone else's.

I find there is an 'autodelete' function on PPRuNe. Now and again I get a bit carried away in composing a reply, editing gaily as I go, using long periods of thinking time, re-drafting, etc., etc. Then the moment I press the 'Submit' button, the whole laboriously concocted mass of rubbish simply disappears ... (Just as well, maybe, so I'm not complaining!) ;)
