Remembering this carrier. Thick it was associated with the tour ops Grecian/Cypriana, initially it operated 757s, mainly to the Greek Island destinations. Then the airline strangely leased in 737-200 very old aircraft at the time and quite different to the 757 operation as I remember seeing the old 732s at destinations like Malaga and Alicante.

Was the airlines demise related to parent tour op bankruptcy?

Any information on Ambassador much appreciated.

I remember G-BUDX was with Caledonian at NCL in 1992 before they launched in their own right the next year.

I used to handle some of their IT at Newcastle many moons ago.

Couple of nice chaps I dealt with who were both flight crew. Funnily enough I wasn't even interested in commercial flying back then.

They flew one season with a leased 320 based at BHX in 1994 I think.

Got a freebie (flight that is) BHX-ACE-BHX day out and even got to sit on the jump seat (one and only time) on departure from ACE. I filmed the departure on my mates camcorder, as his seat was right behind the pilot but I was in the centre position.

It was unusual as it was a Greek registered A320, Bulgarian cockpit crew and UK cabin crew.

It was the number 1 that arranged for the cockpit view for departure although I can't remember her name but a very nice young lady :)

It is one flight I certainly won't forget although the footage didn't last as my mates ex-wife taped over it :{

Not sure but I think a certain Mr Wyatt was involved maybe somebody could verify please. Went bust but reincarnated as Sabre Airways (Wyatt also) if my memory serves me correct. Again I am sure somebody will correct me if I am wrong - thanks.

I was a pilot on the B737-200 when first flown by the airline. They were leased from Britannia and used to meet contracts where only 130 pax could be booked initially from smaller airports eg BHX but also from Lut/Gat/Man. A very happy bunch of folks to work with. The airline was profitable but it was alleged that finance from liquidation (unpaid fuel/land fees/wages etc) could be used to buy British Caledonion then up for sale from BA and restart as Peach Air. Linked backers also started up Sabre Airways 2 weeks later with the same 2 B737's (now reregistered to allow release from BHX) with mainly the same crews. Same day,same way, same pay, same pax, different tie and cap badge. Another enjoyable bunch to fly with. Nice respray colour scheme and fairly reliable considering their age. Happy times.
