Not quite sure on this question, but I will have a guess here.

I think they might be referring to level 4.

ATA 104 lays out the definitions of training levels

Level1 typically a Gen Fam
Level 2 Ramp /Transit
Level 3 Line & Base Maint
Level 4 Specialist Training

In this case it might be what specialist engine training you have received.
On the other hand my guess could be completely wrong and I'll go stand in the corner

An interesting way of putting a question.

I would suggest the interviewer was asking if you had ever worked in a deep strip engine overhaul bay or a component repair bay.

I say this based on the "old" R.A.F servicing terms, third line being the mobile M.U world, and fourth line being the places like Woodhall Spa, ( Tornado engines ) St.Athan ( various airframes ) and Sealand (avionics) all of which were a prison sentence if you were not inclined to work in a factory clocking in and out.

I appreciate the last part of my reply will probably mean nothing to you, but will to others on here...sorry about that, but I do feel my second paragraph probably answers your question.

I'm with K 'n C.

What was meant was base maintenance, and/or workshop component overhaul, I imagine.

He may have been asking about your military experience, if any. In fact that's probably what was meant.

Yep, sounds like what Krystal said. Wasn't;

1st Line - Flight line
2nd Line - Squadron hangar
3rd Line - Big checks on aircraft, like you say St Athan (C and D checks for civvies)
4th Line - Engine, landing gear, avionic bays where you never actually saw an aircraft?!

Sounds like they want to know your 'bay' experience
