Indonesia's Batavia Air is seeking a new partner to further strengthen its business next year.

This comes on the heels of the aborted plan to acquire the airline by Malaysia's AirAsia Bhd and PT Fersindo Nusaperkasa.

"We have prepared our business plan for 2013, and are looking for a partner to work together with, to better shape this company. We hope we can collaborate with a domestic airline next year," Batavia Air Commercial Director, Sukirno Sukarna was quoted as saying by English daily, The Jakarta Post, Wednesday.

Sukirno also refused to disclose the name of the local airline that has expressed an interest in acquiring part of the shares of PT Metro Batavia, which owns Batavia Airline.

Metro Batavia is likely to sell 40 to 60 percent of its stake to the new partner, but the percentage could still change in the final agreement, he said.

"It will help us expand capital, make the business even better, and rejuvenate our fleet as well. We are optimistic we can do better next year as aviation keeps growing in Indonesia," he added.

In July this year, AirAsia Bhd and Indonesian partner Fersindo, the owner of a 51 per cent stake in Indonesia AirAsia (IAA), signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to buy PT Metro Batavia for US$80 million.

Under the agreement, AirAsia would have owned 49 per cent of Metro Batavia, and Fersindo the balance to meet Indonesian ownership rules.

However, both companies announced the cancellation of the plan in mid October because the deal "posed many risks" and "may prompt concerns" among the Malaysia-based company's shareholders.
