Saw an RR powered 767 with a plain red tail depart Sydney this morning. Are all the 'ZX' registration 767s being retired from QF? Will miss the sweet sound of those RB211s spooling up

Planemad. In short, yes they are all going.

Look for Airline Hub Buzz on that site that combines the word Face and Book. He seems to have all the good gen.

I believe 2 this month, 1 in January and the balance by March next year. There is nothing in the maintenance plan for them after that month.

Not quite accurate Dragon man- at least as of last week.

Another goes in January and a third in the 'first half' of next year. No forecast change to the flying hours as yet so no reduction in crew numbers as the remaining airframes will just take up the slack. The average hours per airframe is about 8 so we can get rid of about about 20% of the fleet without it impacting on the total hours flown by the 767 fleet. It's when the hours start dropping that the excess of crew will start to be a bigger issue. New flying program due out in the next couple of days should give us an idea of what's going on in the medium term.

Rest supposed to be gone by Dec 13 although there is a contingency plan being developed to keep up to four on the J curve (post the ADSB cut off date) if required. They'll make that call a lot closer to the date.

Incidentally, the aircraft that left is off to Roswell, New Mexico via Honolulu- at least it was when I spoke to one of the office whallers last week. Screams 'junket' to my mind! :ok: (I'm just jealous. :} )

Area 51 perchance? ;)

Bye Bye ZXB.

Probably Taily. They're going to see if they can find some of the gremlins that the Z cars always seemed to have.

There's a nice new taxiway at Alice, opposite Delta, that runs into the paddock at the moment ... could be the mooted Alice graveyard.

When they dismantle them they'll eventually realise why the stab trim was always out.
Probably a few hundred kilo's of petrified peanuts under the flight deck floor!

Not before time either. Should have gotten rid of them before they did the GE 767's.

That's where we used to hide the cheese board before they made their way South to the sunnier climes of Oz. There's probably a few tonnes of Stilton there to complement your nuts.

Can line drivers bid for these ferries?

Area 51 perchance?

Roswell is in New Mexico, Area 51 is in Nevada.

I thought so too initially.....

Buckshot, I think the ferries are too flexible to bid for per se. This Roswell flight changed destinations a half dozen times in the 3-5 days before they finally lef so even building a pattern of specifying a departure date tends to be very flexible up until the last couple of days. If you're keen, give MG a call. He's always been pretty fair at sharing the love around to those that deserve it for these types of trips.

Waren, you offering a DEC on the 787? :ok:

I sure as sh*t won't - they're not that pleasant on the outside of the a/c.

Not unusual to have poms overstay their welcome in oz. (joke):D

If anyone gets over to Roswell, try to get a look around the airport (we got a tour from the guys painting our aircraft) and check out all the classic aircraft in storage/parked.

Amazing place. That and the UFO museum downtown that does its best to refute that they even exist! Conspiracy....

Funny how the poms manage to keep their 767s flying. Maybe your lot cant fix aeroplanes for a living!¬

Hey Franger, the fact that these aircraft are going is more to do with the competence of our managers than our engineers.

Shes now a VIP charter aircraft after many years in storage...
So if shes still going, why the RR-300s going to god?
Id pick OGD to go...she was possessed.

Well, the rollers don't match the GE's in a few areas but they've done a bloody good job moving millions of people between SYD, MEL, BNE, and PER over the last decade!

19th Dec 2012, 09:19
Yes, but that needs engineers and we all know the Rat plans on that front. New aircraft don't need the same support do they say the smartest guys in the room.

Then again, these decision makers will be long gone when they are found out for what they are.

OGD is long gone. Not long after it was repainted in 2008 to herald the new livery, it was gone. Late 2009 or 2010 I think.
