Here in the outer fringes of Astraland we're losing a lot of TV channels being broadcast as the powers that be move channels to the tighter spot beams. Channel 5 (etc) went off yesterday for us - "no signal is being received". Is anyone in the UK also having problems or is the spot beam doing what it is supposed to do for you ?

OSFO,

Serves you right for watching the rubbish on Channel 5... :E

But overall, let me get this right, you are moaning about the new inability to watch channels that you were never entitled to watch in the first place due to your geographical location. If that is the case, then I've got no time for you in this instance. You doubtless knew the risks when you started the whole endeavour.

A quick googoo would have told you services on transponder 57,59,61 and 63 have been migrated to 2F or elsewhere on or before 4th December.... the list of affected channels being :

Channel 5 London
Channel 5 South Central
Channel 5 Scotland
Channel 5 North
Channel 5 Northern Ireland
5 USA
5 USA +1
5*
5*+1
Channel 5+1
ITV Meridian North
ITV Anglia West
ITV Yorkshire East
ITV Granada HD
ITV Central South West
ITV+1 Yorkshire
BBC One HD Scotland (launching soon)
BBC One HD Wales (launching soon)
ITV Central South
ITV Central East
ITV+1 Wales
ITV+1 Tyne Tees
ITV+1 West
ITV London HD
Channel 4 HD
4seven

They are not all migrating to the same transmitter, so you might find some work and some don't .... but either way.... you're stuffed.

No noticeable problems so far on Freesat using a Humax Foxsat-HDR. I've had a quick look at a selection of the Channels listed above, including Ch5. Signal strength and quality 100%.

Mixture, who rattled your cage ? I pay for those channels.......and far from "moaning" I was "asking" whether anything had been noticed by users in the UK..

And as a satellite engineer, I knew what was/is happening.

If you can't refrain from being offensive, just refrain from posting.

as a matter of interest, is that with a UK based Sky subscription or with a Spanish subscription? I wasn't aware that C5 could be legally offered in Spain through subscription, as its intended for a UK market

Alot of expats have thier boxes with them.

Also you can get a british sky subscription if your in the forces serving overseas in a UK base or a civi on such base. And Gib is such a base.

There is also a roaring trade in UK Sat freeview boxes going into europe mainly so the kids can listen to english and most of the younger generation hate the awful dubbing that you get in Germany and the like.

Theoretically the entire UK Sky package is not available to subscribers located outside the UK for copyright reasons, as distribution rights have only been paid by the broadcasters in respect of GB and RoI.

Most of us 'have a friend who ....' bought a Sky box in UK, using a UK address, and then set the box up overseas. There are even companies that will do it. So if, for example, you lived in the Peoples' Socialist Democratic Republic of France or elsewhere where the TV is as dull as dishwater, you would probably want to have access to UK TV. Sky know that a large percentage of their audience is outside the UK.

Disclaimer : Perish the thought that I, or anyone within my circle of friends and acquaintances, would be party to such an iniquitous misdemeanour.

Though in the UK a lot still have a telephone line connected to their box so that Sky can update the box(es)
If permanently in Spain I doubt that would happen as the transmitter is moved to a different satellite.

Sk+ without the phone connection | AVForums.com - UK Online (http://www.avforums.com/forums/sky-sky-sky-hd-sky-3d/35283-sk-without-phone-connection.html)

Its doesn't matter it seems.

None of the folk I know in europe with it have a phone line connected.

You loose the box office stuff and interactive stuff voting on programs etc but thats about it.

They want the line so they can download your viewing habits and sell them.

If you knew what was happening, then why not fix it then ! :E

OFSO said "I pay for those channels......."

what I was trying to get at was whether his contract is to view those channels in the UK or Spain.
If in Spain he's got something to complain about
If in the UK then he hasn't - technically he'd be breaching the contract terms due to viewing the channels in a geographic area outside the area to which he has a copyright licence.
And Mixture would be correct......

Astra 2F spot beam.Diagram says in the UK a 45cm dish will suffice. What size was everyone using before the migration ?Should be pretty 'hot' in the UK now.

Some info on 2F UK spot reception in Spain (but only with a test signal)

Diagram says in the UK a 45cm dish will suffice. What size was everyone using before the migration ?Still using a twenty year-old Lenson Heath 65cm dish, originally installed for Sky analogue. After the change to digital I re-aligned the dish to 28.2E and fitted a new Quad LNB. Excellent reception whatever the weather.

My dear mixture, you really seem to be trying to provoke an argument.

Yes I knew what was happeneing, no I can't fix it because I can't get up to the satellite and fit a differently shaped reflector, and PLEASE I was only asking whether anyone in the UK had experienced any problems.

Using an INVACOM SNH-031 LNB and 1.5 metre dish feeding a SAGEM receiver programmned for the transponders on Astra 2F at 28.2º there is no signal being received at my 10-20 in Spain whatsoever. UK reception is unchanged. TWT's post shows why (thanks TWT).

End of story.
