Hi folks,

Looking for a bit of information with regards transferring my Class 1 medical in the UK across to the Irish equivalent. Basically I have held my uk class 1 for 5 years now and have always passed the assesments. The one issue i have had is that my ECG always seems to give odd readings. It was noticed on my first test for the inital at Gatwick, and they made me do the treadmill test, cardiologist examined me and said it was fine and got issued my class 1. Then on my 5 yearly renewal of the ECG at my local AME, he had to send the results to gatwick again as they were funny readings. They got straight back to him saying that it was a perfectly normal ECG and not to worry as everyone's bodies are made up differently, and whilst ill never have any problems passing an ECG i will always give these unusual readings.

has anyone else had a similar issue and is it likely to cause a problem when changing across to the IAA? My thinking is that if the Uk CAA say its fine then i should have no issues with the IAA or am i wrong?

Many thanks in advance.

I can be of no help but can i ask what you show on your ECG? Im having the same problem at the moment. ECG shows the right ventricle is enlarged but ECHO/Xray show everything to be normal but until i can explain the ECG im grounded

757 - I have a pretty similar issue. The best thing I have been told (as my ECG always produces a spurious reading) is to take your Gatwick exercise ECG printout with you whenever you undertake a test. A quick reference to that ream of paper by the AME should suffice (although I have little idea how to interperet it).

Ben - Have you undertaken an exercise ECG with your authority medical staff following your Echo/X-ray? If you have (as it was the next step in my case) that should be sufficient to satisfy the authority's cardiologist (assuming it is a pass that is) and allow issuance of your medical.

Hi there I'm in a similar position as regards wanting to transfer my CAA medical to IAA. Have you had any luck with this as I am totally confused as to where I stand? Everyone seems to be of a different opinion regarding this and some say its possible while others say its not.

757 - I can't help you on the specific ECG-related stuff, but can tell you that it is possible to transfer your CAA Class 1 to the IAA. I did my initial Class 1 at Gatwick, and then requested them to transfer all of the medical files to Dublin, who then issued me with an Irish Class 1.

I'd suggest calling the IAA and ask to speak to the aeromedical people there about your intention to switch from a UK to an Irish Class 1. I found them to be extremely helpful and willing to find solutions to problems. They'll work with you to find a way.
