Everyone seems to be harping about how the profit margins are so small in the airline business and how it is just a "nickle and dime" kind of existence. However, there is no dirth of new entrants or people who want to start up new airlines.

So my question is:

1. What explains this irrational behaviour?

2. Are profit margins really that low?

Maybe take a look at the thread: Jet Blue (http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50110)

Big risks, enormous revenue numbers, potentially big profits.
