Any chance of these replacing the EFB's on the tripple heaven?

As far as I understand this will replace the laptops that run KIS. It´s just for the cabin crew, not us pilots. But I guess, if there ever will be a similar device for us, I suppose they would prefer the same platform....

Accurate as ever:

Quote:
A purser is responsible for all the crew on board the aircraft.

I honestly think they have just given up on EFBs for us. The whole programme is so stuffed up it's beyond a joke. Brand new aircraft delivered with nothing installed. Upgrade programme that installs a stand alone product that isn't integrated with the multiple A/C GPS units. Three laptops costing thou$and$ running, what, Windows 95? Can't keep up. It really is pathetic.

Tail wagging the dog, as usual.

Yeah, just read the latest safety bulletin and the part where a skipper wanted to circumfly a cyclone and has been refused this from dispatch! Argument was that this was SOP!

WTF!!!!!!

They pretend that you fly nicely over it.
But what if you lose an engine?
They say what are the chances that you lose it right over the cyclone?
So let's abandon any TO calcs, all ETOPS because what are the chances you lose one before V1 or in the middle of the ocean?

I guess the pursers tablet has more precise information, more precise calculation, direct comms with dispatch and he will tell the skipper not ot worry and to be happy.
We might get their tablets second hand in some 10 years when EK will equip them with tricorders. I the mean time we can continue with our Windows95 marvels that run out of power in 25 minutes, right before the TO calculation is finally done.

Halo of tomorrow :}

Well said-first thought I had when reading it was: why didn't he TELL despatch to refile. I've had to do it before and no doubt will do it again. Thats what being a Captain means! :ugh:

Well said, and for all those who think they'd have the minerals to do it:
It has been done a few years ago and the balls have been called in by the higher forces and told that if they do it again, they'd be buried in the desert a few feet deep.

Sad, but true story.

Some dispatchers can see the big picture (nice South African gent for instance!) some can't.
One I was on a Perth trip, and on the way down, there was a tropical cyclone off track, about 100 nm, we were given some extra just in case we needed it. Next day, the damm thing was spread across most routes back. Dispatch to their credit, planned us via Darwin, then up over SIN to DXB. We went for 1.5 hours the wrong way, somewhat hindered by lack of shortcuts to the exit from the OZ FIR. Bottom line, dispatch do work with caution at times/mostly.

However, if they do not replan you, take more fuel, simple. I know the Captain involved, and he said he was some ludicrous amout of miles off track. However, smooth flight, no issues. Took more fuel as far as I know. Don't make a fuss, just add the extra. Reason tropical cyclone, tops 50+ File ASR if youthink its prudent...

And we have a winner:D (not directed at you bootie) when will people learn that there is more than one way to skin the proverbial, its not about your minerals...its about your mining technique:E

Hey, it goes both ways man, apparently we're not trusted to see the faces of our pilots ahead of time either.

Then again, by the looks of some of them lately maybe they don't want to scare the newbies... :E

(You can calm down now, just jokes!) I do agree it's weird that everything is so separate, for example I can only see the names of the flight crew (and not always all of them if a ULR) but often cannot recall the faces, would be handy to be able to look up rosters of friends in other departments but it would appear that is haram also. As if flight crew/cabin crew only socialise with their own group and not with each other! Never seen it in any other airline... usually all is freely available.

If they are concerned about the extreme end of 'roster stalking' it wouldn't be too hard to let each person decide to whom they want their roster to be visible... e.g. own grade only, all crew in my dept, CC and FD crew etc etc

Back to the original topic, I wasn't very surprised they went with HP, purely because it's different from i-Thing and Android, therefore it must be 'pioneering' :p

My apologies for not addressing you in the correct manner, Captain - or First Officer, Warlock- circle whichever applies- (sorry are we using that off the clock now? I hadn't been informed)

Amusing, that out of the entire post, that's what you chose to take away from it. Quite telling, really, since I was talking about how the company seem to divide the two workforces in the office, when they work closely together onboard. And the only comment made is a dig at an expression that was used in jest. C'mon, surely we can do better than that?

To be completely honest, I knew that one of you was going to jump on 'man' as soon as I wrote it. Which is kind of why I left it in, because I was curious as to who it would be. Man. :E

forgive him, Warlock 2000 obviously lacks social skills owing to his Dungeons and Dragons addiction.

Warlock, you will know if you fly with me, I will be the guy addressing people as "mate/buddy/bloke/fella/MAN etc. etc." and... ripping the p1ss out of elitist sky gods
