Dear all,

I've just passed the screening for an A320 DEC position with THY but
I was stopped by their aeromedical centre just before the medical examination. The reason has been the OML limitation on my JAA class 1 certificate which was raised by my CAA's Ams following a cancer now in remission.
I understand THY medical examination consists of a full national initial class 1 and they couldn't let me go through it because an initial certificate cannot be issued with an OML limitation on it.
I was told that my position could be reconsidered in 6/12 months when the OML limitation will be lifted by my licencing authority.
I've just checked on the JAA website and I noticed that Turkey is Jar Fcl 3 compliant. If they're Jar compliant and I hold a valid Jar class 1 certificate, why the f__k I'd have to go through a full Turkish initial class 1 and they cannot just accept my JAA certificate?
Even the management pilot who checked my documents at the interview did say there would have been no problem. This issue was raised by the aeromedical centre thereafter.
Does any of you have any clue on how I could get away with it?

Turkey is JAA whenever it suits them. If not, they're not.
Pilots with JAR licenses have been flying for airlines in turkey even before they ever joined JAA - without validation :eek:

You will have to get this restriction removed by your authority, the JAR AMEs are all too keen to get restrictions on medicals, trying to get them lifted is a nightmare.. too many rubber stamp johnnies in JAR land... you would have the same problem if you wanted to go to Asia etc..the airline can stipulate it will only take candidates with no medical restrictions if it wants, it is nothing to do with being JAR compliant, it is the airline's choice to accept restrictions or not..good luck

I work for a different Turkish operator and we can fly with our national medical that goes with our national Licence!

When you say their medical center do you mean THY or the Turkish CAA? If it the company then I'm guessing that the Chief Medic in the company won't take the risk in employing you with the limitation.

..well, the day before the medical examination, I spoke with an AME from THY at the same building where the board interview was held in the morning. She said there should have been no problem but when she spoke with "the hospital" to request a couple of additional blood tests for me, they answered that with an OML limitation there was no chance, therefore I didn't attend the medical on the following day. I believe she'd spoken with someone either at Dogan Hospital or Memorial Hospital, therefore I reckon it's a CAA issue (?!?)

Maybe this will give you a clue as to the current thinking:

The " letter of permission" to fly that replaced the old " Validation" to your JAR licence will not be granted with the OML restriction on your medical, you need to get the AMS to remove it to stand a chance..

...understood, so we can say that it's THY's interest to get all candidates through the medical but due to some CAA's issues, many people fail it.
Is this a realistic interpretation?
