Im sick of this fatigue thing, they do all these studies to look like they are interested and making an effort. When in fact they know we are landing with our eyes hanging out of our heads and micro sleeping on descent.So I wish they would call a spade a spade, and say pilots are extremely fatigued all the time and we frankly dont give a toss!:ugh:

I think that 'Fatigue Studying' is becoming a bit of an 'industry', along with the CRM erm... I think it's now TEM Industry, the Security Industry, and the Marriage/Divorce Industry.

Lots of iron ricebowls in all of these industries. As far as 'Fatigue Management' studies go, generate lots of paperwork, come up with a bit of psychobabble, and Robert's your father's brother. Nothing ever changes.

Dart is right. We work for a 24 hour airline, not a daytime only operator. With that comes more rewards and more pain. There is no way to avoid flying on the back of your clock sometimes. When we do, there is no way to feel good or function at optimal levels. None of this to say the operation could not be run in ways more amenable to these considerations, and thereby increasing safety.

The HK CAD is too busy granting extensions to Scenic rd let alone put their oar in the water to reduce fatiguing patterns. :rolleyes:

Yet again CX are trying to reinvent the fatigue wheel. Air NZ, Singapore and Massey University have done studies for 15 odd years on this stuff. I think SAS or one of the Scandinavian countries work on a Bio-Rythem fatigue model.

So the info is there but CX is different and they want to reinvent fatigue, make it that much harder to fly, make our lay-overs that much shorter, what the fatigue reports that much harder to fill in BUT safety comes first is the motto from Top Brass. Except when it costs money to do so. I have seen it in other industries..... aviation is nothing new.

CX could be a world leader in this industry (it once was) but they simply are just sheep now... they will follow the pack and won't be the Leader it once was.

The company should be forced to issue a synopsis of the fatigue reports every quarter. They are good at setting up something to keep us quiet, but there is no pressure to address ongoing results. I haven't heard a thing from management about this since the announcement of the program.

You probably won't hear much about it now, since the good Dr. was escorted from the premises. He was championing the fatigue reporting, and hence the reason for his departure. (or so the rumour mill would have it)
