Does anyone know why the Martin Baker Meteors have military registrations?

Historically it would have been cheaper to operate them on military register,although that line is blurring a little these days.
Also they are heavily modified and I doubt they would get on CAA register - especially because of the work that they do !

'cos they're supplied by MOD (DPA) for defence contracts and civilians flying military owned aircraft on behalf of MOD are subject to 'unusual' licensing requirements.
