It all feels very modern and up to date when I tell my rellies that I have no idea what I'm doing on Xmas day until mid November. You can't really cough because you don't want to screw someone else's Festivities do you - or I don't anyway. We used to get a roster that included 1/2 Jan but even that's gone now I think. What do proper airlines do I wonder??? (BA for instance or United)

I think that the xmas request is all bull. I think they do the roster and if you get xmas off, they then put a request next to it.:cool:

Indeed, a longstanding and appropriate tradition.

A very appropriate Latin citation... never trust them, especially if they come bearing gifts!

PS Absolutely, you NEVER cough on xmas or new year's unless you're really REALLY sick.

Almeno che i Romani rimango sotto il Po.

Only if the Romans remain south of the Po river.

Un saluto dall'Italia!!

If you keep talking Latin, the only people who understand your points will be from Oxbridge.

Sydneyman,

One possible reason why you have the impression not too many local guys are at work over Chinese New Year could be because the success rate of the 10% of the pilot population using their annual leave or Joker Gs to get CNY off is much higher than that of the 95% who want the same for Christmas and New Year?

The fact that the company gives unpaid leave over Xmas/New Year makes the odds worse for everyone else:confused:

Personally pretty good roster,however when can we get a better system than this ...

Maybe we can get our great IT department to come up with a plan:{

Why should the IT Department help you. You won't even given them a jumpseat at Xmas:uhoh::uhoh:

On the basis that 95% of Pilots want leave at xmas it works out min 1 in 7 years.
Suggest either go work in a Office (with the pay) or become a Mgmt Pilot :\

if you don't have kids, you should be working. makes sense to me.
