Just remember hours are hours. Don't get suckered in to paying over the odds for a JAR school. A FAA school such as Sunstate have good reputations but there are a few mom and pop outfits out there that will do the job. If you have a night certificate it can increase the hours available to you to build. And DO NOT just fly up and down the coast like some. It's such a waste!

In addition to flight schools, look into flying clubs. The club rates should be less than a flight school. Some of the clubs offer temporary or transient memberships. I agree with the previous poster...have a plan in building your time, don't just hop in a plane and "cruise around". Here's some things to ponder:
Will the school or club pre-schedule the plane for you prior to your arrival
Is the aircraft rental rate "wet" or dry?
Do I have to supply my own renter's insurance? (Most clubs include it)
How much money do they want up front? (don't deposit more than half of the hours you intend to fly)
In addition to the aircraft checkout, will they assist with flight plans, weather briefs, etc..
What equipment do the planes have? GPS?
Depending on the time of year, Florida is great, think possibly of Texas or California as an alternative....
