We all have Albanese to thank for this:

MORE than 1000 jobs will be created at Parafield Airport over the next 20 years as part of a new masterplan.

Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese yesterday approved the plan, which includes increased flights and expansion of retail and commercial projects.

The airport will cater for up to 318,000 flights a year by 2020 up from 200,272 flights in 2011.

Mr Albanese has also ordered a taskforce be set up to mitigate the impact of flight operations on the surrounding community.

This will include a ban on flights before 8am on weekends and public holidays.

Retail plans for the airport precinct include a Harbour Town-style shopping hub on Main North Rd, a motel and motor vehicle auction rooms.

Is their any other secondary airport in Australia that has a curfew on weekend am departures? Will Albanese propose a similar restriction at Adelaide airport?

It certainly is for real......

Curfew planned for YPPF (http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/more-flights-jobs-in-parafield-airport-plan-approved-by-federal-government/story-e6frea83-1226511365472)

What is NOT mentioned is the windfall profit to Parafield Airport Limited now that the land is being re-zoned Commercial/Industrial. By my reckoning their balance sheet will be about $120M better off.

Nice if you can get away with it.

So, just to play a little bit of devils advocate here folks, surely this is making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill. Will anyone really be that badly inconvenienced by not be able to depart prior to 8am? Surely any flying that would normally be done this early could be shifted into the week.

Seems more like they're planning on increasing the number of flights out of there will most certainly annoy people living in the area and this is a small way of balancing out those extra flights.

On the same note, does anyone out there just happen to have any details of movements out of Parafield and their times?

Well what if you work during the week and are flying away somewhere and need to leave early? OK 6am may be doable but 8 am is just pathetic. This Albanese is a walking joke.

I would have thought that normal departures are not the problem but rather numerous circuit training aircraft over Para Hills and Mawson Lakes upsetting the locals too early on the weekend is the worry.

I suspect there is more to this story. Probably the ban will only apply to circuit training as that is what some residents are getting upset about, and they are only a minority anyway going on previous surveys. There are already restrictions on training hours as in the ERSA and have been in place for decades.
