For those thinking of coming to Hong Kong with school age or near school age children, the following is a link to a Playtimes magazine article. I'll let you draw your own conclusion(s)......

I find there's a lot of talk about the horrors of getting your child into a school in HK, I find it mostly unfounded. I was fairly relaxed about getting my child into a school, didn't even bother with waiting lists until I got to HK and got my child a place in a school within a month, ended up having 3 schools offering a place and chose the school that is about a 5 minute walk away from where we live.

You were lucky. And I suspect your child/children are fairly young. Try getting a teenager into a school where they can hope to get some continuity in their education. It's either going to be very very expensive - or impossible if you can't get the cash together for the debenture. It's hurting recruitment in HK (not just in our industry) and the problem seems to be getting worse every year.

I have friends from the UK who have been considering moving here. The advice I give them is "talk to the schools" first. Those who have realise the situation is hopeless for them as we don't have employers who will cover the debentures in our industry.

Or the ones who have to commute because they couldn't get their kids in any school here. Right place right time nmcpilot, but that will not happen most of the time.
