Thomson Dreamliner

So there's been plenty of adverts for this new "dreamliner" which seemingly claim that everyone gets more legroom. How would the standard legroom on this aircraft compare to any other? What is so unique about this new aircraft?

As far as I am aware, passengers in the main economy cabins are getting between 34 and 36 inch pitch depending exactly where they are seated.

A lot more than most other carriers economy seats.

And "Dreamliner" is Boeing's name for the aircraft not something Thomson has made up

Boeing have worked assiduously on promoting this name. They have branded it by this name long before it got the first two components stuck together. Which makes sense. They had to differentiate it and make sure that it was not given a name by anyone else.

Subject to the maximum number of seats, approved by the FAA and other regulatory bodies, airlines can cram as many or as few seats as they deem appropriate.

The original B747-100 had about 435 seats while other variants (such as the Japanese Short Range) had over 550. Same basic fuselage size, different markets.

Thompson has a website (http://dreamliner.thomson.co.uk/dreamliner-benefits/) on what they are proposing. I'm not sure if 'Economy Club' is economy or something better but they say: "Travel in Economy Club and you’ll get a 33” or 34” seat pitch – that’s more legroom in economy than BA, Virgin Atlantic, bmi and Monarch."

According to the Thomson blurb economy seat pitch is 33-34" compared to current 33" on their 767 long haul. Premium Economy is put at 38" compared to 36" on current 767. Given the 767 Thomson long haul product is fantastic assuming the dreamliner meets what is advertised it will be superb.

Yes, its even less impressive when you realise it is 10-15% less powerful than the Trent 800 engine fitted to the A380.;)

I think its rating of 3.8 cats per square ironing board says so much more :confused:
