Years ago I was blown away by Natalie Portman's performance in the otherwise over-the-top shoot-em-up The Professional (Leon in some countries, other names in others). I mentally pencilled her in as the Jodie Foster of the new generation.
Since then she has appeared in several generic Hollywood movies, in each of which she shone like a beacon among ordinary scripts and direction. Then to my dismay she lands a leading role in yet another dreary remake of a 25 year old special effects movie and commits herself to the next boring sequel in three years time.
Who is advising this girl on her choice of movies? Or am I missing someone ahead of her on the list?
(Umm, Natalie, I'm available on a consultancy basis.....)
