But still heroes... and life saviours... as if there hasn't been helicopter firefighting in Portugal for several years... 1 less Ka32 for Portugal, 1 less problem.
I wonder... how the maintenance is done? Engines and transmissions?? How many extensions??? Maybe its time to ground the Ka32 fleet.

Are you a little jealous 400hover (are you're still unemployed:D
It's hard to understand if you like or dislike the KA32. On a previous post you say the Kamov is a great machine for heavy loads, and then today you say losing a Kamov is one less problem. Did you hear another opinion in the pub last night and then decided to go with that for your sentiment of the day regarding the Kamov 32

A KAMOV KA-32 firefighting helicopter from state owned EMA ( Empresa de Meios Aéreos ) crashed yesterday while fighting a fire near Ourém, in central Portugal.
The two pilots are ok.

Not baiting any "Port" pilots, but looking at the cabin and landing gear almost suggests a rollover, dynamic or otherwise. Missed his spot on the elevated road?

Portuguese Pilots:
After more than 5 fire seasons in Portugal on the Kamov32 and B205A-1.
I can say with hand on heart that Portuguese pilots represent a typical cross section of pilots worldwide. Some not so good, and some as good as you'll meet anywhere in the world. Those of you that know me are aware of my extensive background in international operations and also that I am never shy about criticizing any substandard operation. Again I say with full conviction; that the Portuguese Kamov operation is as safe as it gets considering the inherent risks present in all firefighting operations.

The recent accident:
I have much more information regarding the accident than is available on a rumor website; but out of respect to the crew and the company. I will not comment except to say that they were faced with a very difficult situation and I only hope that I could handle it as well under similar circumstances.
They walked away! Well done guys!
