This is not really an aviation question but I can't see where else to put it - mods please move if not appropriate!

I have to travel from JNB - CPT in November and was thinking, just for a change, of doing it by train on the 'Premiere Classe' service, which is priced at R2500, so a lot more than flying, but if it's pleasant then I'm happy to pay the extra.

Could anyone who has done this offer an opinion? I'd appreciate it.

The website Premier Classe - Home (http://www.premierclasse.co.za/Home.aspx) is pathetic, no timetable shown, the online booking facility gives an error message, the number to book is an 0860 number (not accesssible from outside RSA) and none of the numbers on the 'contact us' page are answered.

Do Rovos Rail still do the Pretoria-CT run?

They do, but not when I need to go, and their prices start at R12,950 which even with a hefty discount which I can get is still a lot of moolah!

We did Joburg/Hoedspruit on Premiere Classe about 2 years ago and it was brilliant, can't vouch for them now though. The sleeper cabin was comfy with nice linen and gowns, there were loo's and shower cabins at each end of the carriage which wasnt as grim as it sounds. The lounge/dining car was fairly basic from a decor point of view but the food was superb and the staff very accommodating. Overall we were extremely impressed. You used to be able to take your vehicle along as well on the JNB/CPT route.
