Just watched the classic movie Battle Of Britain once again.
I can never get over the fantastic air/air and takeoff/landing shots - there is just no comparison between real hardware in operation versus hollywood CGI!
So what happened to all the ex-Spanish Air Force machines used for the Luftwaffe in the movie?

Most of the CASA 2111s were still in active serivce with the Spanish, and remained there until sold off (or scrapped?). Doug Arnold acquired a couple, one later went to the USA and crashed a few years ago, Neil Williams died ferrying the other to Blackbushe when it crashed in the Pyrenees. Another one is at Duxford now with IWM, awaiting its turn for restoration. Two came to the UK for the film, so far as I know they are both now in German museums?

The Buchons were largely owned by Spitfire Productions and sold on after the film to the Confederate Air force. Connie Edwards had quite a few stored in a hangar and some have emerged and fly or are in musuems - there are two or three in the UK now and I believe the one Mark Hanna died in may have been one.

One has been at the Deutches Museum Flugweft in Obeschleisheim near Munich for some years.

I think that a lot of their engines ended up being acquired by MoD and are tucked away in a hangar at Boscombe Down still as spares for the Blower Tunnel, which still runs off four Spanish built series 500 Merlins.

fantastic air/air and takeoff/landing shotsthere have been others with equally good Spitfire take off footage. Have you seen the Czech made film "Dark Blue World" ? An ex Spitfire pilot told me once that it was the only film that you could actually hear the 'thud-thud' of the wheels as they retract into the wheel wells, as it was in real life.

There's a Merlin engined He.111 in the Flugausstellung Junior in Hermeskeil.
