Got an email (http://us4.forward-to-friend.com/forward/show?u=05e2c7aac13473c15d99e90f2&id=eeecff20df) at lunchtime from Avplan saying they just released version 2 - heaps of firsts for an iPad app AFAIK.
My favourite new features:
- Georeferenced (moving map/aircraft) DAP approach plates and airport taxi diagrams - (extra $60pa - normal free 1 month trial)
- Auto IFR shortest route
- lightning strikes in addition to WX,METAR,SIGMET overlays
- PRD airspace highlight/status
- Current/next area freq.
- Terrain display, TAWS warnings
- altitude optimisation
- exports flight plan to my Garmin
Have played with it all arvo and no bugs/crashes.
Time to take it flying :p

Thanks CG! AvPlan turns 1 tomorrow and AvPlan 2.0 is the culmination of 6 months work in the background and its a relief to have it out the door finally.
slam_click, AvPlan is 'Not for use in air navigation' - it is to be used as a situational awareness tool in the cockpit, as is a VFR GPS for example. If you do not want your position displayed on a chart, just turn it off. It is not to be used as a sole means for air navigation.
Thanks,
Bevan..

with respect you need to do a market review on this.
There are many pilots out there that dont use apple aand never will.
The first supplier to provide an android version will make a killing!!!

Hi Jock
We are always reviewing this decision ; at the moment our concern would be we would need to double the amount of developers to support the multitude of different Android operating systems (every device manufacturer customises the OS :ugh:) and platforms (every device is different)

(who btw has only had the 1 pprune account since joining 10 years ago)
Does the Jeppesen App not have georeferenced charts?
Jock, most pilots I know own an iPad or iPhone. I don't quite get why some people hate apple though,

True for the iPad app. Not true for the windows tablet Flite Deck programme.
Subscribed a month ago, did a 3 1/2 hr round trip 2 weeks ago and couldn't be happier.Never missed a beat, that's before the upgrade. Well done Bevan. :D
