View Full Version : The closing of ronchonner's thread.

Hi everyone,

Right *puts his about-to-cause-a-fuss hat on*. The last thing I want to do is start a fight, but I object slightly at Scrogg's closing of the love me/hate me thread. *nervous laugh*

He claimed the reason was because it was non-wannabe specific, but isn't part of the Pprune wannabe network the developing of a community, and isn't it slightly difficult to develop that community if we are completely restricted to plane talk??

Granted, popularity seems to be a wee bit of a problem for this guy and pleasepleaseplease lets not get into another debate about his merits, but I don't think it was right to cut the thread off.

Why not have the wannabes forum 90% aviation and the remaining 10% a chance to get to know other users? I may be jumping up the wrong tree, but I would be interested in hearing other peoples views.....If this thread doesn't get barred as well :) :)

Happy Flying,

SpeedBird22

I agree *if that's allowed* with SB, in that this is a community as well as just an informativee website about planes. People want to get to know eachother as well as just exchanging dry facts.

The Ronchonner thing is getting a bit tired now, but I think the sooner people get it out of there systems, the sooner we can get on with the job in hand.

Brave move SB22 - I'm behind you all the way (That is to say, hiding quite a long way behind you, in fact)

Knowing Ronchonner as I do, I'm 100% behind Scroggs. There is no justification whatsoever in wasting bandwidth on such a total loser.

I don't read Wannabes that regularly, and I don't know ronchonner or his postings that well. However, my immediate feeling about that thread was that here was someone on a massive ego trip, who wanted to be talked about, whether he was loved or hated. Not appropriate. We get to know each other anyway, and PPRuNe is usually pretty flexible. Well done scroggs!

The decision by Scroggs stands.

Ultimately it's down to maintaining a reasonable signal to noise ratio for all the forums. We act as we see fit to keep each forum on the right track whether by editing, moving, deleting posts or removing posting rights.

It's our call and it's part of our job to take any flack that comes with it. When people vehemently disagree you have to remember that we can call up every post they've ever made. It's a form of quality assurance that has worked well over the years.

Now, I can see how british people are: close narrow minded people.By banning me, you ban an ATP pilot who worked hard to get his licenses.By banning me, you accept that your system is crapt and the only way to stay on this web site is to join a system which is corrupted by a ego country controlled by a racist/fachist/.../governemt.
the a$$hole who own this web site want make a quality web site with quality people.
who are you to ban me, do you think you are better than FAA pilots.
Dont you see, than we are kicking your butt!
I think you are not better than Mr bean, you are a geek,a jerk, and probably a Gay UK JAR pilot with a yellow tattoo on his dick!

eh, no offense, ok?

Nothing quite like a reasoned, well-thought out response....

Well done, Ronchonner, I think you've just proved their point. :)

Shame, because I've always found his posts quite funny!

The most recent one above had me in hysterics!!

Of course he's bonkers, but it's funny!

Maybe I have an odd sense of humour... :)

Thanks for your replies and lots of valid points made. I don't want people to think I am just making a fuss for no reason but would like to see a less strict, slightly freer pprune.

I do agree that ronchonners thread was very borderline and probably deserved to be barred, but there should be some (however small) scope for pprune related but non-aviation threads.

Cheers,

:) BAW22 :)

I would hate to see Ronch banned, he keeps me laughing all night. I even found myself talking about him to friends at Turweston today, and yes I ballooned the landing. It happens to us all.

To ban Ronch is like Christmas without an Anti German and French film.

Stick by your Guns Ronch, generally they are facing the wrong way like 1939. I can understand Pprune Towers view but who next, Pielander, Blindside or Me, because I want porn in the gallery.

Now THAT's what I call comedy! :)

Ronchonner,
Allez a Jetblast toute de suite! :)

"Every absurdity has it's champion" LOL...

ps I agree with the notion that Wannabes should be a little more gossipy; R&N seems to have got the useful info:general chit-chat ratio about right

Cheers again,

I'm with PPrune Towers but they didn't go far enough.
It may be that we want the site to represent a real community but do we really want the drunks, drug-dealers, other criminals and psychos? I think not.

Just some-one shut him up!

So, not content with aviator envy, Ronch is now into penis envy! Is there any area in which he is not inadequate?

BTW Ronch, have you scheduled your next go at the commercial exam yet? Remember, the front of the airplane is the bit with the fan on.

Folks,
I can recommend a lovely beach at Folkstone, Kent. Sand is superb and ideal for sandcastles of the highest order.

Excuse me while I stiffle a yawn.

Some people are so far up their own arse and ability... just enjoy the fun and concentrate on your exams, there are to many who are intrested in themselves and are not actually old enough to be interesting, please grow up.

There is a forum on here where Ronchonner can flourish, gamboling in the spring mist like a little lamb fleeing the Foot and Mouth squad: it is JetBlast.

Takes courage to nail your colours to the mast in there, though... prisoners are not taken, and fools not tolerated gladly. Somehow, I don't think we'll see him in there...

Scroggs is 100% correct; any moderator would have done the same as he did. Good call.

OK peeps, just to let you know I'm here and listening...!
I guessed when I closed the thread that there'd be some dissension, but I decided that this forum is not the place for such ego trips. Our man Ronchonner may be amusing to some, but only by making a fool of himself. As SS above mentioned, the appropriate forum for his 'humour' is JetBlast - where you may be able to watch his literary dismemberment at the hands of Pprune's hardest-nosed cynics, malcontents and misfits!
S22 contends that there should be room for some 'off-message' threads in the spirit of community building, and I heartily agree. But this guy is gradually hijacking Wannabes for his own ends, and that's not on.
Anyway, it's done and if you don't like it - tough :)

For all that Ronch undoubtedly is, like him or loathe him, he should be acknowledged for increasing the banter level.

This site is a fantastic resource and is great fun to read.

Moderators - moderate away, I cannot complain.

Thanks again to everyone for replying and giving their thoughts.

Scroggs - please do not think of my thread as a criticism or challenge of you in your capacity as moderator. It WAS a good call and probably necessary to stop him posting too many pointless topics. I was merely using the opportunity to get across my view - which I think I have done.

The balance between off-topic chat and specific interest is getting better all the time, and I thank you for that.

Happy flying,

:) :) SpeedBird22 :) :)

OK then, here's my tuppence h'penny.

Ronchonner ha snot been banned. He WAS warned by me tht he was being tedious, ref: http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/Forum2/HTML/008922.html

Scroggs is a Moderator of Wannabes and therefore entitled and justified in closing the thread. If I had found it first I would have done the same.

However, comment, advice, criticsm and input on Moderator/Administrator decisions IS ALWAYS WELCOME as I have said time and time again over the years. I agree Wannabes should be chatty and relaxed. Levity, humour and a wry turn of phrase are welcome welcome components of Wannabes.

Ronchonner - whilst to some people funny - failed my sense of humour evaluation. He is *still* entitled to exist on PPRuNe so I don;t see what the fuss is about.

On a wider scale I have closed - ever since 1998 - less than 150 Wannabes threads, moved around 100 to more relevant fourai, deleted less than 2 dozen innapropriate threads and banned ONE person. Hardly an atmosphere of Nazi'esque suppression given the sheer volume of Wannabes activity.

And now to the the pub for the traditional small Welsh market town bank holiday beer session and probable punch up.

Cheers
