That's what I will be saying tomorrow morning after the $30M draw tonight.

Therefore my question is: what is the fastest and longest ranging single-pilot IFR business jet? I know the Citation IV does 450kts but not sure if it is SPIFR? Maybe the Phenom 300? Obviously the TBM850 has to be up there, but then again it only has one fan. But you could trade some speed for long legs plus the ability to carry all your mates in a PC-12. Or you could do the obvious and go the B250 King Air. Nice plane to take you and your mates on the shooting/fishing trip and still have room for the meat/fish/trophies.

Then again maybe you could go old school and a Beech Staggerwing or a Lockeed 12 might fill the duties. What about a nice Spitfire, Mustang, Sea Fury (nothing like the sound of a Centaurus belting passed at 400kts!) What about new build FW190?

Maybe you like upside down, a new Pitts S-2C or Extra 330 or MX2 or if you want to be by yourself, an MXS-R? Give Matt Hall a run for his money? But you would need a support plane and a DC3 would definitely fill that niche.

Anyway you guys may as well save your money on a ticket, because these are the questions I will have to ponder and come up with a solution to tomorrow morning. If you ask nicely I might even let you sit in the cockpit of whichever aero planes I buy. And make engine noises!!!

Good luck, but not too much!!

Cheers

Wouldn't take long for that $30Mill to evaporate owning a jet with all yr new found 'mates' hangin' on!:)
Anyway what's $30 Mill, pilots earn that in a few short years as it is:E

I'm with morno, I think the Beech Premier 1 fits with the original criteria. Nice looking bus :ok:

But I think in that class, I might just buy a Merlin.

As for alternatives....in no particular order.

Quest Kodiak. Seriously load capable.
Late Cherokee 6 with nice appointments. Nothing like the Family truckster for hauling a large load slowly.
Questaire Venture. Ok, only 2 seat, but goes like a bat out of hell on not a lot of power.

If i got something from the second list, I'd also have to buy a Harvard or wirraway, get that round engine tail dragger exp to later step up to a Boomerang or Sea Fury...or even a bearcat :E

OK - as long as we are dreaming, how about something altruistic, $30M is more than enough for some toys AND some philanthropy.
As I am obviously biased I would like to rescue some of our DC3 airframes from the elements and maybe even get one flying again. Would even like to get some of our more recent aviation heritage stored away safely for when people start to wonder why someone didn't protect such and such a plane for posterity
And for something really far out there I would engage a treasure hunter with the fancy deep water side scan radar and go looking for the lost Sandringham which is somewhere off the Gold Coast broadwater.
As far as toys go - I don't need to go anywhere fast but I would like to be able to get a bunch of people and gear off the beaten track to remote places and tropical islands so a Grumman Albatross would fit the bill perfectly.
Ahh dreaming - at least that can still be free!

DC3Qld,
Along similar lines I have always had a soft spot for the Catalina. Been over in Perth for a couple of weeks and visited the RAAFA museum at Bull Creek. Had a good look at the big Cat and watched the whole DVD they have on it. Now that is a way to travel. Mind you 22 hours aloft is a loooong time. But you can carry lots of mates and kit.

Whilst I was there I also watched the Lancaster DVD. Low and behold a gentleman was there with his daughter and son. He flew Lancs in WWII. Did 12 flights in training to get his captaincy and then flew 13 missions. Well 12.5 anyway. He was on his 13th when he got shot down and spent the rest of the war as a POW courtesy of Hitler. He mentioned a number of things and we had a very nice chat. One thing that got my attention was they sync'd the props visually by looking at prop disc. He also mentioned the prop arc of no 2 and 3 engines is directly in line with pilot/co-pilot. Always worried him that a prop would let go.

At the end of the conversation I was blown away. He was a piece of living history. All I could say was "thank you for your service" and shook his hand.

They also have a beautiful original MK22 Spitfire there. Wonder if, when I win lotto tonight, they would sell it to me to restore to flying condition? I think they will be getting a phone call on Friday to ask just that!

Cheers

Hmmmm 30 million huh.

Buy 300 acres on the NSW southern highlands and buld a Cotswold style stone mansion.

A Cessna Corvallis TTx + maybe a Mu2 Solitair.

Of course one would need your own runway. Question, how much would pabing a 900m runway cost assuming the ground is flat to begin with?

A Steinway d274 concert grand piano.

An Allen LL-Q3274-SP digital theatre organ.

A Jaguar XFR in dark silver- the most beautiful car in the world.

Panasonic 103 inch Plasma or maybe the 150 inch monster and a home theatre system to go with it. Had a look at one at Len Wallis Audio. A pair of Focal Grand Utopia speakers was $300,000, the amp that drove them (Krell) was 60 grand.

A Harley.

And a big fence to keep the rif raf out.

Invest the rest wisely (you know, some QF shares :E) and operate an air-experience centre not for profit to spread the love.

Turbine Duke. Or maybe PC12.

A list of vintage aircraft and wine as long as my arm (aircraft for me wine for the mrs).

A maintenance organisation. Hire one guy with all the tickets and pay him ****loads. Buy my neighbours out.

You never know how much you miss it until it is taken away from you. Just one more flight as PIC, preferably in a multi in IMC with no autopilot (and none of that sissy magenta line rubbish either).

Then get something with easy access and join Angel Flight.

Sure there are so many great machines out there, but if I really want to dream a little - a really good C185 with all the gear, with which I'd continue to train pilots in the real art and skills of flying real taildraggers. Just need a few real hills and undersized strips to go with the package!

Only one plane? I couldn't pick just one plane!
I'd find a nice council owned airport somewhere in rural NSW (Moruya would be ideal), buy that, build a mega house/hangar on it for myself, build other hangars and foster a truly GA friendly atmosphere to encourage GA companies and pilots to use the airport. I'd do this by keeping lease costs to a minimum and providing proper, modern facilities for all aerodrome users and keeping the local community aerodrome/aviation friendly. There might even be a few airside cabins/houses available for short term lease/holiday rentals.
Then I'd buy something like a PC 12 for getting around locally, a nice Lear 45 for getting around Oceania/SE Asia and just fly first class if I wanted to go abroad (obviously flying the PC12 or Lear to the airport!).
There would also be a few fun planes, maybe a Stearman and a Skybolt, plus whatever caught my eye. There would definitely be some sort of warbird in there and a Catalina restoration would be a great way to waste some money.
Would any of that be profitable? Probably not, but if I had $30million to waste, I'd have fun doing it and god knows, GA needs a shot in the arm from someone.

But not As good as new lancair. I don't know what it is or does but its the ultimate definition of sex on wings.

Lets see,

By an airport, then buy a big 4x4 ute with flashing lights, get myself a big badge and a really bad attitude. Everytime some-body pulled up in there GA plane race out and harass them and generally make them feel like a terrorist. Everytime the met man mentions rain within a 500 nm radius of the field, immediately close the grass runways for a minimum of 6 months.
Find the CFI of the flying school and harass him about minor issues until he gets that zombie look on his face, then make hasty exit across the closed grass runway's in my big 4x4 ute. Spend all day finding some obscure rule to enforce that has no safety aspect for aviation. Harass some poor student pilot doing a pre-flight on his C152 for not wearing airport operator approved safety vest and issue him with an on the spot fine of $200.00.

Or start up a business class airline betwen Melbourne and Sydney using a couple of B727-200's. Lets see Penthouse pets for flight attendents, 70 business class seats/beds, as much grog as you can drink on the two hour flight, cigars, spa bath down the back, casino, pokies and Foxtel on the mega screens. Bookings, only through travel agents like EWL.

We'd buy/set up a flying school at Port Macquarie. Full monty. PPL to CPL and IR. Have a couple of top instructors paid the award and then some. ;)

Spend 50 grand on cosmetic surgery for the ugliest/loudest and give her a job. Call it Employer Funded Training, and get a grant from the guvmint.

you'll have CASA screaming "FIRE HAZARD!!" Due to the Cigars,
Buy the contract to transport CASA officials on the route, and supply free cigars to them. (you might want to also install a private dance room on board as well)

you'll have someone from the Government screaming "RESPONSIBLE SERVICE OF ALCOHOL!!"
1 free flight to show them how responsible you are, free Gin and Tonics all round, probably a free cigar as well. Escort the officials to their motels, and ensure they are safely ensconsed. You are doing more than other providers, as you are ensuring the patron is safely in bed, not just kicking em out at closing time.

and finally some irate hippy screaming "CONSUMERISM GONE MAD!!!" or some such nonsense

A new poncho from dimmy's should solve that.

2. Buy King Island and suceed from Australia.

3. Make King Island a duty free zone.

4. Build a brewery on the Island to compliment the cheese factory and meatworks.

5. Put CLX the mighty Heron back in the air after a total restoration.

OK, it's lotto time again, and 50 milllion is going to buy a lot of toys.
I think one of the Burmese Spitfires should find a home here in Australia - that will burn through the first 3 million, then I want to see Wanderin Dave's Non Profit Air Experience Centre up and running so everyone can come and fly in it.
Best of luck to you all, but I think I am due to win this time.

Sorry old mate. I've already got the winning ticket. :E

First step, establish an RAA school to replace our recently closed establishment.

Couple of Texan Clubs for basic instruction, couple of CTLS's for cross country work, couple of Carbon Cub SS's for taildragger endorsements and a couple of Sting RG's for retractable endorsements.

All instructors paid well above award. Low hire and instruction rates to reflect the small profit margin (aka tax loss) requirement. Fund a few scholarships each year for interested and committed youngsters.

Then expand to GA training.

Then Tiger Moth, Harvard, and the Darwin Heritage Flight of P-40, Zero and Spitfire - just for the February 19 Bombing Commemoration displays. :D

And a couple of PC-21's for Turbine endorsements and mock dogfighting with Coodakid3.

Sigh.........

But at the moment (and in the absence of any hireable RAA aircraft or affordable GA aircraft) I'd settle for a clapped out Jabiru 120. :{

Will invest 10 in shares, 10 in cash.
The Romanian company that did the new build Pratt powered Yak 3s will get an order for 5,? ..how many do you think? ..half a dozen enough?.. La 5FNs or 7s.
Balance to other aviation enjoyments.:ok:..motor glider perhaps.

THEN the 20 mil remaining will be used to do a huge multi media campaign, print TV, whatever by the seriously ANTI CASAists. :ok:
To get the message across that past and current Governments, Ministers and Depts of Transport etc ...have left CASA alone to be come a law unto itself, unaccountable and seriously opaque/non transparent, to grow and become a monster.
A creche for cretins that have damaged the GA industry to the point of collapse, to the anger and ire of many who love it and work in it...or did once.

While there may be many good folk beavering away in CASA ( I do hope so..and assume they are not all trough dwellers)... for what end when incompetents let loose out of regional offices go around creating mayhem FOR NO BENEFIT TO THE SAFETY CASE...at a cost of squillions.
And with all the hurt, angst and legal costs to the victims... and the effing perps just pull their heads in and walk away.
ITS BS, AND IT HAS TO STOP.
The campaign will be for TOTAL regime change, regulatory sanity and nothing less.
To re-vitalise and grow GA ...that would be money well spent

Thump!
Oh sh*t I just fell out of bed!...was dreaming about something...::uhoh::\:{

It would be cheaper to become a resident KIWI. That sort of cash would alter their fiscal balance to the extent I may even join you.

Quite right FA...under the current system in Bureaucratalia aka Regulatastan..in reality it would be a classic WOFTAM. :E

Actually the 20mil might get a rusty old Rusky nuke artillery shell.... that would solve the problem permanently.......but create too many others, like bribes, freight costs, shipping and 'end-user' docs. Pass.

Na Zilan is certainly a very beautiful country... and as an aviation minded nation it leaves Oz for dead. Great fush and chups ,too. But the cold....!! Pass again.

Being an Australopicethus Tropicanensis, me old blood's too thin for that.

GA and Rec Aviation is on the move in Thailand, I hear. I'll check it out shortly. Warmer too. And a CASA free zone. I'll drink to that. Tick.:ok:

I would inject what is needed to finish off what restoration projects are going on around the place like the Liberator in Melbourne, Beau up in QLD, a couple of Boomer projects, Spit, Mustang and P-40 projects. Then make sure that they can all fly around the country for all to enjoy some old aircraft.

Ok I will just wake up from a dream.

CoodaShooda I will get a PC-21 just so I can play with you too.

Well it is now up to $70 million for next week!

I have to say, whilst pprune is nearly always negative, especially here in D&G, it is awesome to see how many potential philanthropists we have that would put back into this money pit we all love and mostly - well sometimes - well maybe used to - enjoy.

I do sincerely hope one of us aviation philanthropists does win this as maybe an injection of a large fortune into GA/flying schools/warbirds (as this seems where most would look at) will result in a small fortune being made by someone and expanding the influence of GA in this country.

Good luck to all next week.

Cheers
