At least one of the Sand Pit airlines does sponsorships for ab initios. I have heard recently of a chap who has just finished and is joining the sponsoring airline as a Second Officer on the 330.Will he go into the RHS as a S/O or will his job be a Cruise relief pilot for a while.

At QR, S/O's go into the RHS and operate as a normal F/O. Line training generally takes 6 months for a new S/O.

....but AFAIK it is NOT fully sponsored- you need a frozen ATPL for a S/O position (stand to be corrected, but that is what I think is the case).
The only ab-initio positions I know of in the ME are Cadetships restricted to local Citizens.

Hi Wizofoz,
Those hour requirements out in the ME usually set 1000TT aren't they?

AV,
Depends for who.
For Emirates, it's 4000TT including 2000 Jet, or 2500TT, all on a "Modern, Efis Jet", and they don't make exceptions!
Pretty sure E T I H A D is much the same.
I think around 1000hr TT qualifies you for "Fast track" S/O with QR, and they take a small number of bare frozen ATPLs as "Regular" S/Os

My employer requires all RHS to hold a full, unfrozen ATPL for LH operations as three man crews (1 Capt, 2 FO's) require the FO in the LHS to be PIC during the period of the Commanders rest. If it were different then I could only nominate the Unfrozen ATPL holder to occupy the LHS as an Unfrozen ATPL holder can only be PIC U/S under the supervision of the Commander not the other FO.
Is this different in the Sandpit?
Honest question as I don't know anyone out there anymore! :E
