QR Application Process (What do I need to do?)
Thursday, October 6, 2011

What do you need? to apply for QR!

1. Ask yourself if you really wanna be a Cabin Crew!

In Korea, people call service job (and construction job) “3D” → Dirty, Dangerous and Difficult! I don’t know if it’s true or not but yeh bear in mind that there is always a glamorous side and … a NOT-SO glamorous side of every job so KNOW it and keep asking yourself at least five times if you really wanna do this.

To me, finding a .. so-called perfect job is impossible because it doesn’t exist, all you can do is; find a job that you can live with .. most importantly it must be a job that you can be patient doing it and you think you can enjoy it no matter how hard it is. Yeh I know it’s easier said than done but you really need to think about it carefully because this might be a turning point of your life^^
2. Once you decide to work in the aviation field, you should RESEARCH not only about the airline, but also the aviation industry and the State of Qatar, the place where you’ll be based.

It helps you understand much more about the airline you are applying for and it gives you a big picture of the whole industry and the country that you’ll be living for a couple of years?, what’s going on there, what you need to have and need to know, what suits you and what doesn’t, etc. It’s not necessary to memorize everything about the company, but yes it’s better if you can answer when you are asked, right? One of my friends was asked “Who’s our CEO? When did he join the QR?” and lucky her cuz she knew it .. and of course she passed the first screening process. Well, this is one of your first impressions! Say … if you have the same qualification with Ms. A, but you can’t answer what the recruiters ask while Ms. A can, you know who they are gonna select! These are websites that I used for researching Qatar Airways and the State of Qatar:

Cabin Crew | Qatar Airways Global (http://www.qatarairways.com/global/en/careers-cabin-crew.page) (research the company and the way they represent themselves)

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/qa.html (everything’s there about the State of Qatar - fairly accurate and many scholars use this for their dissertation)

Qatar Airways - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qatar_Airways) (double check the information pls lol)

http://www.iloveqatar.net/ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qatar_Airways) (very detailed for Expats in Qatar)

What’s more, go to www.google.com (http://www.iloveqatar.net/) and type “Qatar”, “the State of Qatar”, or “Qatar Airways”, you’ll find thousands of info! Enjoy googling! lol

From QR homepage →

Reach for the stars! Join one of the most awarded airlines in the sky.
Do you love travelling and meeting new people? Do you have excellent interpersonal skills? Are you a team player who would love to be part of an award-winning team?

If your answer is YES, then Qatar Airways wants to hear from you. We are looking for dedicated and energetic individuals to join our multinational, award-winning cabin crew. Apply now to take advantage of this excellent opportunity to travel the world and become a flying ambassador for Qatar Airways.

Requirements
Being cabin crew is not just a job but a way of life.
We invite applications from those who meet the following requirements:

•Minimum age: 21 years → If you are turning 21 in a couple of months, go for it!
•Minimum arm reach: 212 cm (on tip toes) → For male applicants, I think it’d be ok but for female, please be careful because if you can’t reach 212 cm on your tip toes, you’ll be asked to go home at once!
•Minimum education: high school degree → Everyone should have graduated high school by the time you apply for QR.
•Fluent in written and spoken English (ability to speak another language is an asset) → To be honest, not so many people are fluent in both written and spoken English. So don’t worry because English is not only the qualification that they are looking for.
•Excellent health and fitness → Make sure that you are VERY healthy and not coming down with infectious diseases as they take it into account very SERIOUSLY.
•Willingness to relocate to Doha, Qatar → Hmm, this is VERY important because you must LIVE there. Many people say Doha is not for them and simply give up applying and there are many people who can’t stand living in Doha and decide to walk out. So make sure that you’ll be all right living in a conservative, extremely hot, and many “must abide by-rules” country!
•Outgoing personality with good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a multinational team → Maybe, this is the most important one! They’ll observe these skills from your performance, interaction, attitude, etc during the preliminary screening and your final interview.

Benefits
We offer a comprehensive remuneration and benefits package including:
•Competitive tax-free salary → Yes, it's tax-free!
•Fully furnished, shared accommodation with private bedroom → Some get private room!
•Welcome bonus (2000 Riyal) → You'll have to pay them back 1000 if you quit in 1 year.
•Three-year, open-ended contract
•Meal allowances while on duty → Depends on your flights!
•Transport while on duty
•Comprehensive medical insurance
•Life insurance
•Travel benefits on Qatar Airways and partner airlines → 1 free tix and unlimited 90% & 50% rebated tix for you ... and there are for your family members as well (no free tix)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Prepare your “Resume”, “Photo”, “Cover letter”

If you don’t know how to write a CV, google it!
Free Resume Examples| Cover Letter Samples | Resume Writing (http://www.resume-resource.com/)

What I can say is; keep it SIMPLE, EASY to read (and to get the required info) and your CV (work experience, education background, etc) SHOULD relate to the industry! Definitely, it should be UPDATED, PRECISE, and HONEST.

Well, I know many people are trying to appeal by writing everything they have experienced but honestly some of your extracurricular activities might not interest them, so pick up the most interesting and appealing one! Remember that they spend no longer than 1 min going through your CV when you walk in! Double check spelling, grammatical errors, and EVERYTHING – you can ask your friend to do it for you as s/he might notice something that you don’t.

For photo, you need 1 recent passport-sized photograph on a plain (avoid white) background and 1 recent full-length postcard-sized photograph (business attire) on a plain (avoid white) background.
Photo Format: stand facing the camera, feet together, hands relaxed by the sides and a warm open smile!

For cover letter, it’s not mandatory. I used to submit a cover letter but some of the recruiters didn’t even look at it while some read it carefully so decide it yourself! lol

4. Check the recruitment campaign schedule!

Cabin Crew Events | Qatar Airways Nigeria (http://www.qatarairways.com/global/en/careers-cabin-crew-events.page)

From the QR website:
You are most welcome to attend our open day/ CV Submission Recruitment Campaign in all destinations WITHOUT any invitation letter. Please note that all expenses incurred by you to attend any recruitment campaign will not be the responsibility of Qatar Airways. Short listed candidates will be required to attend further interview processes over the next two or three days.

What to expect
If you want to meet us, please make sure to be on-time, wear business attire and be yourself.
Ladies - Knee length skirt and short sleeve blouse. Hair neatly tied back.
Gentlemen - Business suit with neck tie
We are looking for candidates with good interpersonal skills that raise to our 5-star service level.

*Double check the City, Country, Date, Time, Location, and Event type! Sometimes they recruit female only and occasionally recruit only the citizen of recruitment country! Be very careful.

5. Once you have all the required documents and info in your hands, APPLY online (if you wish to)

Again, this is NOT necessary. You DO NOT have to apply online.
You can only bring your CV, 2 recent photos, and your confidence to the recruitment campaign and that IS enough. (According to QR Homepage, “You are most welcome to attend our open day/ CV Submission Recruitment Campaign in all destinations WITHOUT any invitation letter.” 2011/10/06)

But for people who want to get an invitation email from QR, you might apply online.
What you’ll get is the information of the recruitment campaign and that’s it.

I used to apply online just to make myself feel relieved but I NEVER passed the recruitment campaign that I applied online … haha

Now you know what you have to do, why don’t you give it a go? Be ready!
Opportunity never knocks twice!

I’ll come back with the tips and what you have to do on the open day later on!

Fingers crossed!

Recruitment Campaign (Walk-in/CV submission)

Recruitment Campaign (Walk-in/CV submission)

Now you guys know what you need! If you are ready, why don’t you give it a go?

Honestly, QR has NO STANDARD on selecting people, in my opinion.
It’s all about (YOUR) timing, opportunity and ….. LUCK!

Basically, recruitment campaign is held weekly around the world so go to the nearest country to where you live! It normally starts from 9-12, 9-13, 10-13, it really depends so don’t forget to double check! The recruiters basically come 5-20 mins early so BE THERE at least (I say at least .. people who are late sometimes ARE NOT allowed to get in because there are too many people) 30 mins before it begins because they might give you very important information and they sometimes tell you what they LIKE and DISLIKE, etc. And most importantly you get to know what kind of person they are and you MAY select whom you want to submit your CV to. lol

Today is nothing actually, you just follow what they want you to do, SMILE, be NICE (Hmm, you can be yourself that’s right but remember that you are applying for a (service) job!), behave properly (you are applying for the world’s 5 star airline, you know what you should/shouldn’t do), submit your CV and leave! That is it! (you might have to wait, wait and wait! So make sure that you’ll be ok standing for a couple of hrs because some people faint!!)

Yes, this process is of importance as your VISA will be permitted (whether you can go to preliminary screening or not) at this stage. And as y’all know, people are easily failed! I have seen many people speaking FLUENT ENGLISH but they are failed. And many neatly-groomed-people do not get selected! Why? Beats me cuz I don’t know either. lol Maybe, they are not impressed ?…

What I can tell you is if they LIKE you, then it’s your day.
But if they don’t, althou’ you think you are one of the best candidates/you are ready and excellent enough, you will be asked to come back when you are ready! They always say …

“You guys can come back anytime!”
“It’s not the end of the world.”
“If you don’t get selected today, it doesn’t mean that you are not good but you are not what our company is looking for right now.”
“Improve yourself and you are welcome to come back anytime.”

These are what you will hear during the recruitment campaign so familiarize with them! lol

**These are questions they may ask you when you submit your CV. (There are many more but these are what I know.)

- Hi, how are you?
- What is your name?
- What is your first name?
- What can I call you?
- How old are you?
- When is your birthday?
- What do you do?
- Are you working or studying?
- When will you graduate?
- How many foreign languages can you speak?
- What is your hobby?
- Where do you live?
- What did you do yesterday?
- What did you have for breakfast this morning?
- Is it your first time applying for Qatar Airways?
- Why do you think you were failed last time and what have you improved?
- Why Qatar Airways?
- Where did you hear about Qatar Airways?
- Why do you want to be a Cabin Crew?
- What do you know about our airline?
- What do you know about Middle East?
- Why do you want to quit your current job?
- Do you know who our CEO is?
- Show me your teeth, ears, hands.
- Thank you for coming.

Bear in mind that they check your personality and your communication skill!
Don’t speak too much.
Don’t be too nervous.
Try to break the ice.
Be friendly and professional.
.... and you’ll be fine!

If it’s your day, they’ll invite you to attend preliminary screening which might be held either on the same day or in the following day depending on them.

They always ask you to read the instruction paper for people who are shortlisted – it’s about grooming, venue, time, etc so read and memorize it.

Basically, LISTEN carefully and DO what they ask you to and you won’t miss anything.

Language proficiency and grooming does matter to some of them. But I think your IMAGE, PERSONALITY, and ATMOSPHERE are the most important today! So do WHATEVER that you think might impress them,
be yourself (actually I don’t like this phrase cuz I don’t know how but it really works once you try! lol),
behave properly and ....
BEAR IN MIND that you are applying for a (service) job and it's the world’s 5 star airline!

LUCIE QR
(posted on 4th Sep 2011, 00:50)

Hi guys thought id post a few hints and tips..inside information lol as ive been here for over 2years now.

well firstly..if you dont succeed the first time around..try again. i know many people who attended a few open days, or even had interviews for different airlines etc etc, if you think youve got it..keep trying. they deal with alot of applicants week in week out and its only natural they might miss someone who is suitable.

alot depends on who the interviewers are..what mood there in. there is no set crew, everyone is different. age i would say 21-31 but i know plenty of crew who are older, my flatmate with no prior experience joined when she was 34.

show your qualities as:

1.smiling..genuinely..not fake..
2.being polite and considerate..'thankyou for your time' etc will go a long way.
3.dress well..business like and professional
4.listen, eye contact, facial expressions and body language.
.if there is 1000 plus people you have to make yourself memorable in a good way!!
5.prepare answers..

why do you want to be crew? say things that they want to hear- your friendly, like working in mutli-national teams, enjoy a hospitality based environment but also the responsibility of making sure people are safe..its not all about travelling and earning more money than your current job.

why qatar airways? if you have travelled on another airline, maybe a low cost where they only sell food, say that you would enjoy working for an airline that prides itself on having the highest standards of grooming, service etc. good reputation etc

these things will make you stand out.

how do you know you will like it? maybe in your current job your used to dealing with lots of different types of people or working unsociable hours.

6.practice english writing skills, especially if english isnt your 1st language.

they NEED crew..but obviously they cannot take everyone all at once. try an attend somewhere where not so many people attend..manila, mumbai its all very competitive!

if you do make it through, dont be worried if you dont hear anything for along time. there under a lot of pressure, and things always take a long time at qatar airways. they will tell you either way so until you get a reply try not to think about (although it is difficult i know)

its not the end of the world:
theres other airlines-emirates Teahid etc
you can try as many times as you like
look into going to a low cost domestic get some experience and try again
i know someone who tried 12 times before she got accepted.

ask yourself, is it really for me?the job is not easy, its not easy being away from home, in a different country, working and maybe living people from different backgrounds..whats meant to be will be.

if you get an offer with etihad or emirates, go with one of these instead of qatar but if qatar is your only offer..then take it, come here, see whats its like for yourself, enjoy the new experiences and when you get sick of the rules and politics (it does exist i wont lie to you) then at least you can say youve done it.

ive had 2 great years of meeting loads different types of places and experiences new things. i was so worried before i came as i read lots of negatives, the negatives do exist and it is sometimes hard but you just have to play the game and go along with it.

when you get here..listen to what they say during training...if they say your not supposed to do something..then dont do...or dont do it until you know for sure you can get away it..so many crew throw away the opportunity to travel the world for silly things..

well im not sure if this will be of any help so message me with any questions. i would gladly offer any individual help advice information tips whatever to those of you who are interested.

good luck guys

Qatar Airways cabin crew interview process and stages

Hi Flygosh & everyone. I was just browsing through this amazing blog and thought it would be cool to share a few things with you, Flygosh visitors. But I don't have a Blogger account so I'd appreciate if Mr. flygosh could post this comment for the readers out there, spread the word? hehe

I just wanna share a little bit of what I've gone through during the interview of QR (Qatar Airways) recently, on the 2nd July 2011 held at Traders Hotel, PEN.

But before that, allow me to steal some of your precious time by indulging into my story for a while, since I'm in the mood

I'm a 23 year old female, and I have previously served both ground and flight operations from various airlines, including an international private / charter airlines that I have been with almost 2 years in the Middle East. I have just finished my contract this year in February and currently looking for new opportunities, I would consider myself as a 'flying addict', that goes by my undying passion for flying and the lifestyle of being a flight attendant. Once you fly, you'll go high! Haha.

Well, my Qatar experience was quite interesting and inspirational as I would imagine it. I'm originally from Ipoh (you know, Old Town White Coffee, Char Kuey Tiaow, Kellie's Castle and Pangkor Island to name a few tourism attractions)

Oh, I love my hometown so much. I love the more reserved, tranquil and green village styled town of Perak Darul Ridzuan. Oh and it's very convenient now, I've always travelled with the invention of KTM's new railway transportation version- ETS (Electronic Train Services). It's affordable and I truly am sounding like a promoter right now, Haha! Behold! They're expanding quite impressively, what attracts me to travel with them via IPH-XKL (Ipoh-KL Central) is that the time-pricewise that's beneficial for frequent travelers, like me, well, since I've been trying to go for as many interviews as I could, I would be flying- ops! Traveling with ETS, plus there are plenty of pretty well-groomed, friendly, smiling girls serving onboard, for real! I'm talking about Train Stewardess to you guys! No kidding, their uniform is superbly in bright yellow-blue kebaya cutting, kind of MAS kebaya look-a-like.Great job, great service, great comfort

So, let's start my blabla with my journey to PEN. The day I bought The Star at the end of June, I think it was fated, I had a feeling to read a newspaper all of a sudden (kidding! Haha. I actually wanted to look for Job Advertisement's pages every Saturday) so I bought the paper (without even cared to read the headlines, you know, boring politics, crazy celebrities rumors and everyday crimes) they bored me so, I quickly gazed to the middle part of the newspaper, yeah... STAR JOBS. They're like a birthday present, you know, it's surprising, unpredictable and it's fun to know what's there inside for you.

So, my eyes kept looking and looking and finally it stopped rolling, I found Qatar Airways Open Day, 02.07.2011, Traders Hotel, Penang. I was worried at first, usually I'm only familiar with KL, other than that I either have to find a driver or go by myself, by bus or train, as usual. So, at first I hesitated, because one thing that irritates me about QR recruitment style, it's cultured, fixed, and that you have to carefully follow their guidelines, for example, if you arrived later than the time given as stated or reminded that you need to be punctual but you didn't, your chance of passing through that door for a welcoming entrance is zero percent. (telur ayam)

Tak boleh masuk after 9am, that was in KL two years ago. Some of my colleagues arrived at 0930 hrs and they begged for the door guard (can you believe it?) yeah, neither do I and my peers however rules are rules and that's one of their smart tactics into evaluating your punctuality and incompetency or ability to follow instructions and obedience towards authority - first impression! (believe me, being a cabin crew is like, I may say, a softer side of Military service except you don't carry guns or weapons onboard.)
No, girls, please don't carry pepper spray either. It didn't work. I've tried

So, I told my Mom that I would be going, and she suggested that my uncle and aunt would come along as co-drivers (I don’t drive, I know it’s sad but I was traumatized since I was involved in quite a fatal accident in 2005, old story), anyway, so they drove me all the way from Ipoh to Penang, oh and my amazing sister helped by printing out a piece of map (thank you, google, I owe you once)and by the power of the map, we managed to find Traders Hotel which is located nearby / attached to Komtar Perangin Mall building if I wasn't mistaken. I arrived at about 0840 hrs. My Mom accompanied me straight into that hotel lobby and I saw quite a number of candidates waiting patiently (and some, sleepy faces, however looking good) and I headed directly to the ladies room to retouch on my makeup, perfumes and stuff, you know, girls stuff.

Well, what I wore that day, simple and elegant. I don't wear jewelries because normally for C.Crew interviews, 'nude skin' is preferrable by the panles as they would love to see your real skin condition and not to apply your makeup too thick, they tend to overshadow your natural beauty and appearances. However, everything you wear on your body must look complimentary to your appearance. Grooming is the key to the aircraft doors (you know what I mean :)

In case of pimple attacks (jahat kan jerawat? Time interview la dia selalu ada) I would camouflage my impurities with a ‘concealer’. I used Body Shop Tea Tree Oil products. They’re amazing.

So, the briefing starts exactly at 0900 hrs and everyone has seated, there were two panels, our very own local, warm, beautiful, intelligent Malaysian (experienced) crew who was in charge that day. Names cannot be written here due to privacy; however I was impressed by their briefing session (professionalism) and explanations, a complete and articulate speech yet resourceful for our own keeping as a candidate. They talked for about an hour or so, and joked a little bit, and sharing flying experiences.

Their stories were germane and fun, I was sleepy that morning but I was enlightened by the two fantabulous ladies (I learned a new word) so my eyes were staring only at her cuteness and bubbly personality, I couldn’t stopped looking; they were both attractive and intelligent. Personally I feel proud of them as a Malaysian, they’re entrusted by the world’s five star carrier, awarded airline in the Middle East to represent us, they’re our pride and asset of inspirations, they started so young in the industry and they did well, they have this eagerness, hunger for ambition, but in a good way, that it carried them forward and they have succeeded aligned with the airline’s rapid growth, which both image and reputations they carried as ambassadors.

The briefing ends 2 hours later, time passed by pretty quickly, I couldn’t wait to go to the toilet as I have detained myself from peeing, in order to follow the rest of the briefing period, so as soon as I submitted my resume to the fantabulous lady in charge J I seated for a while and later headed straight out to that door. So the process goes like this:

FIRST STEP:

1. Arriving at 0900 hrs
2. Enter briefing room
3. Be seated
4. Turned off cellphones
5. Maintain your smile, continue smiling
6. Get to know your left and right ‘neighbours’ if you feel like making friends
7. Listen to the panels’ instructions
8. -2 hours- of enlighten speech
9. Wait for panels’ instructions
10. Walk towards the panel, smile, greet courteously and hand over your resume, chat a little while and leave with manners. IF YOU HAVE BAD BREATH PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF.
11. Go home, don’t wait, you’re being given a limited time to receive a call indicating that you’re shortlisted to be called for the first stage of interview.
12. If you receive a call, say, before 6pm / 1800 hrs, congratulations, you made it through the meticulous selection process. You’ll be given a dress code and certain specific instructions for further preparations. Each individual will receive a number, your candidacy number. Take note.
13. Sleep early and make sure you set your alarm clock for your interview tomorrow!

SECOND STEP: FIRST INTERVIEW ROUND (ENGLISH EXAMINATION)

1. Your journey begins here. Arrive on time, punctual and make sure that you followed their guidelines and instructions properly.

2. Don’t forget to smile, maintain your courtesy, mannerism and all that traditional values are essentially useful at this point.

3. Do grooming checks on yourself, retouch on your makeup if it’s smeared or tainted, and please alter them so you will appear more pleasant and well groomed.

4. Important: Remember, hair neatly tied, no jewelries and do not chew gums!

5. Always retain your physique’s aesthetic poise, elegance, body language, seatback straight and never perceive a lazy, sloppy, sleepy-face, dull, as you’ll attract negative energies all around you and that is not a good environment for you. Body language is your second self; it may be your worst enemy. Remember, your lips can deceive others but never your body movements, it reveals everything.

6. By the time the exam starts, what I did was to tranquil myself and answers everything calmly.

7. -1 hour- of exams, including height (tip toes check 212cm) and body marks or weight inquiries.

8. Submit answers.

9. Wait outside with other candidates.

10. Results are given, numbers are called (your candidacy numbers) and if otherwise, you’re not selected.

11. For those who didn’t make through the first round, consider yourself lucky enough to have been given a chance to participate in the exam for it doesn’t happen to everyone. Your failure is not an end, failures are one of many steps of success, and it’s just how you take it, positive or negative.

12. Improve and try again, as advised by QR panels, the doors are never closed for you.

THIRD STEP: 2ND STAGE INTERVIEW ‘GROUP DISCUSSIONS’

1. In this interesting yet intense conversation in divided teams, it’s to show how cabin crew interacts in their working environment, passive or active, bright or dull, creative or typical, aggressive or defensive, the characters you shall perceive will never occur to you that it has revealed itself naturally. This is what the recruiters are dying to see in you, YOURSELF.

2. You’re being given a situation; you must analyze them psychologically and emotionally. You must have the capability to endure and control your emotions independently. You must never show arrogance or interrupting on other’s opinion; instead you must always listen and perceive patience as how you would deal with your guests, customers and passengers, precisely.

3. Find a solution in a teamwork oriented scenario, as that is what will happen in your job as a cabin crew.
4. The panels will give feedback and comments and short-listings of candidates will commence shortly afterwards and if you’re successful, you will have to attend the final stage, a one on one interview session.
5. Good luck.

Well, that’s what I’ve experienced so far during the interviews. Did I pass the first or second or final? Secret. Haha. Well, that’s not as important as my next journey. Do not ever give up hopes and be strong in finding your dreams. Dreams will never notice you until you chase them.

Additionally I fell in love with Penang’s Butterworth Ferry ride, the Jetty was cold and rainy during my departure and arrival, the sea breeze was calm and the water poured down in the quiet dawn will be my reminiscence of Penang, in memories.

Till we meet again (onboard). Thank you for reading ;)

Sincerely,
Miss Trolley Dolly

Hey All, recently went for the Nairobi selection procedure. Almost all there had applied online and passed the video interview. Like 2 girls came in, though without invite letters, and they were allowed to submit their applications.
We were about 15 at the Final Intervew. I'm wondering if this is standard and how many they usually take from a selection that big. (I say this because I know EK just select about 6 or so for Final interviews....THEN PICK 1, the nerve!)
It is true, no one knows what the recruiters base their selection on. Most ladies were dressed to the nines but did not make it past the english test.
Advice: look straight in their eyes. Apart from that I have nothing else.
All the best people!

TwoFiveFour, thanks for sharing your recent experience with QR assessment. Could you share how's the going with the new selection process of QR? I mean, there's online application now and video interview. What's the process for this online application and when were you informed of the video interview? Glad if you could share your experience or anyone who experienced this new application process. It seems QR is really changing their selection process for CCs.

I3igh, the new procedure seems much less stressful for both the recruiters and the applicants. I applied when a Nairobi selection was in a months time as such my video interview was 1 wk after my online application. I am sure this can vary.
The actual Assessment Day was pretty straight forward as well, they gave a thorough briefing before we took the english tests on Qatar, QR and being cabin crew in general. It was soo thorough that not many inquiries were made by the applicants. Thus they give you all the info you need to make your decision, i felt as if my days of research preppin for the interview were in vain.

Everything else flowed as usual. hope i've helped.

Hello fellow Cabin Crew wannabe
this thread is all bout how many tries you had and till what stage were you able to go through, and if possible, there are people here who got a chance to passed the final interview and for medicals already or even a cabin crew already. please do also include that you are already on that stage.

The reason for this, is that I think this would be a good motivation for us wannabees in some way this would give us hope. :)

as for me I already tried 4x
1st try I didn't get a call
2nd try I got a call up to final interview, but received a regret mail :(
3rd try I didn't get a call
4th try got a call, up to second day only :(

*If you have some tips for us please do :)

It used to be published on their website, but now I cant find it.

Qatar Airways is one of the only few 5 Star airline in the world. Is has recently won and been named “Airline of the Year” at the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards 2011 for its outstanding inflight product and operational excellence. The airline is base in Doha and is expanding rapidly. By 2013, Qatar Airways plans to serve more than 120 key business and leisure destinations worldwide with a fleet of over 120 aircraft. Qatar Airways currently operates a modern fleet of 98 aircraft to over 100 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and North and South America.

Due to it's rapid expansion, it is hiring cabin crew aggressively worldwide.Basically, your salary consists of three parts which is your basic, flying per hour pay and overseas nightstop/layover allowance.QR cabin crew pay scales are base on monthly basic salary as shown below

AB INITIO= AB initio trainee QR3600 = USD 986

F2 =On completion of the training,2 observer flights and still within 6 months of flight duties QR3600 = USD986

F2 =On completion of 6 months of independent flight duties after training period and observation flights (economy class) QR4000= USD1096

The above salary increments are not automatic after specific period of time but are base on performance and merit .

All cabin crew (after AB-initio training) receive an hourly flying pay(HFP),which is grade depandant .This is each hour of productive commercial flying duty.

For F2 Flying pay is QR45 (USD12.35) per hour and is computed on the number of hours operated (chocks off to chocks on).Cabin crew have an average of 90-100 flying hrs per month throughout the year.

Additionally, the cabin crew receive hotel meal allowances (country specific)for layovers.this is duty depandant from the time of arrive to the time of departure to/from the city of the layover .

As for other benefits, they are : -

Competitive tax-free salary
Fully furnished, shared accommodation with private bedroom
Welcome bonus
Three-year, open-ended contract
Meal allowances while on duty
Transport while on duty
Comprehensive medical insurance
Life insurance
Travel benefits on Qatar Airways and partner airlines

Thanks Esprite. Is this the latest info? I found somewhere that it was $1579 inclusive of all flying duties. Is that possible to be the latest?

Also, did anybody hear about Video Interviews done by QR before the actual interview?

The salary and flying pay i posted above is the lasted one.
salary + flying pay + meal allowances, normally F2 earns more than that.

read this through about video interview.

Lemme just say hi to you all, hope you're all having a great day.

In a week I have an OD with QR. A month ago I didn't got the call to the 2nd phase, tho later I found out that they weren't recruiting male cabin crew, as nobody passed. I'm wondering why is that...

Does any of you know if they changed their "policy" and will be they hiring male cabin crew in the upcoming OD's WW?

Thanks in advance,
xx

I'm sorry if this may sound crazy but I have been using my handy search tools on the world wide web to research this specific airline and I can't seem to find dark skinned flight attendants (negro). Every image comes up with either white, middle easterners & Asian attendants. Now they're doing an open day in my country and i'm wondering if it makes sense to even attend seeing my race. So has anyone traveled with this airline before and seen people of African decent working for them? It's quite easy to find any race with Emirates. They're very multicultural, very mixed. Can't say the same for Qatar just yet. Any advice on this would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Hello!

I received the confirmation email on the 2th Jan. 2013

I did all the tests. however they asked me to repeat the report of my spine.

I sent email asking if the report should be done by a radiologist or an orthopedic surgeon.
As there was no answer for 8 days, I sent the report yesterday from my orthopedist.

Today I received an email responding to the earlier: the report should be done by a radiologist; (with only 5 hours difference from my email sending orthopedist's report)

My doubt is that whether or not they accept the report of the spine because I do not want to repeat it for the third time.

Someone with a similar situation?

thank you so much

Lena.

Hi Everyone!

I have been looking up info about employment conditions at Qatar airways and I have found too many negative opinions about it, from apparently different people (I say "apparently" because we never know for sure who is behind a nick). What I read the most was "Qatar gives no freedom whatsoever to their cabin crew", being "no freedom" complaints on guards at the accomodations' doors, excessively strict social rules applied to CC like no night stands, curfews, etc. It's also true that all negative comments about it were posted in 2008 and backwards.

I want to work as CC in one of Middle East "big 3", but I don't want to step in a trap. So far, I have been considering Emirates and Etihad, and I would like to consider Qatar as well but the words on it don't sound so favourable.

So, what do you say?

Cheers!

@thinhtruong

they never have had an open day in Vietnam.
however, you can attend an open day in Bangkok, where the events are held quite often.
i think they will be interested to you for sure and you will be so outstanding, since you are a Vietnamese speaker which they need now. (they fly to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, but only few Vietnamese speakers are working for QR now.)

however, i have seen a lot of changes nowadays (in a better way) since they got a new vice president and a new ruler of the country.

Hi, I'm from the Philippines and there hasn't been any Open Days or AD's held here recently, can I apply online and go to other Asian cities near my country? There are current opportunities this Feb 2014 in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Thanks!

According to some Swedish media, working for Qatar isn't that much fun...

Sanningen om lyxen på Qatar Airways | Nyheter | Expressen | Senaste nytt - Nyheter Sport Nöje TV (http://www.expressen.se/nyheter/sanningen-bakom-lyxen-pa-qatar-air/)

Camera surveillance and boyfriends/girlfriends are not allowed at employees' residences according to some sources. Now, I have NO idea if this is just a media ploy or what is going on. I just provide this information for you to further research.

Try Google Translate if you can not read Swedish.

Hi, folks! I need to go to an interview soon and I seek some advices how to handle this. How is it supposed to address these situations and other stuff to look like a favorable candidate? Thank you in advance for your help! :ugh:

SITUATIONS
1 .If, for example, there are 60 children on the flight. But you have only 40 toys. How would you deal with this situation?
2. What would you do if the seat belt signs were on and the aircraft is about to take off, but a passenger insist that he has to kneel down to conduct his prayer due to religious reasons?
3. What would you do if a commercially important passenger complained that another commercially important passenger is snoring too loudly behind him?
4. What would you do if you saw one of your colleagues is being deliberately rude to a passenger?
2. What would you say if the passenger evaluates your work as rather slow and that he has been waiting for you for ages?
3. What would you say if a passenger said that you are totally incompetent?
4. How to handle a drunk passenger?
5. What do you say to or handle a passenger who is terrified of flying?

DISCUSSIONS (15 -20 minutes of activity)
2. How much is education important for a brilliant career?
3. In the first class there is an overbooking, you have a list of 8 passengers but you have to downgrade three people. Which one would you downgrade? Why?
4. You are going to a desert island and you can take only three objects with you. What would you take and why?
5. Name two persons to receive the Nobel Prize. Give three reasons for each of those persons.
6. You are 12 people on a sinking ship. There is an escape boat, however only 8 people fit in it. Your group has to discuss who will be saved. You have 15 minutes to make an unanimous decision.

Sofia -25- Egypt - smoker/ Yen - 22- China - non-smoke. Your group is the accommodation department that decides which crew gets paired up in 2 bedroom apartments. You will present your decision and explain your criteria of selection.

Hello guys,

is it true or just a rumour that at the end of assessment day they tell you if you are hired or not? I mean that you don't need to wait for any golden call...
Cause I got pretty far during the assessment and I'm so motivated - even the girl doing the assessment wasn't very comfortable telling me I'm not shortlisted, unfortunately they were two there. So I need to try again.

Thanks for any reply.

Ian

Hi IanCZ,
I don't believe this is true. They may give you an idea of the outcome but I wouldn't think any of them would give you final decision. A friend of mine who conducted the final interview told me they are very professional and straight to the point.

Hi..i applied for a cc position online as advised by the Qr team. I got an invite for an open day but my application reads «assessment centre». So is this a cv submission day or AD? Secondly does it have to be a short sleeved jacket for ladies. Can I wear my long sleeved kneelength white suit with black strips
. my appointment is on 19th April 2014

Hi Yalam28, I'm also a bit confused on the dress code part, in their website it says you wear a business suit, knee length skirt (with no stockings), white short sleeved blouse... now i' m not quite sure whether you are supposed to show up wearing just a short sleeved blouse with a skirt alone or you can just wear a business suit but with a short sleeved blouse underneath. Also my application says the same once i submitted online so i' m not sure if the recruitment drive happening in Kenya on 20th is an Open day or an Assessment day... if you do manage to get the answer to these two questions please share. For those who have attended interviews before your insights will be appreciated!

Dress up a business costume with a short sleeved blouse. If they call you up for the second day they will tell you if something with your dress code is not as it should be.

Hi everyone!
I took part in the recent OD in Buenos Aires. Made it through all the process to the FI and got selected as a "recommended candidate" .

The thing is, I wear glasses. Not regularly, not all the time, only when using PC or watching TV or going to the movies.
Only in those cases.
They didn't ask about glasses at all, so I didn't mention it. (I wouldn't have mentioned it either since I don't use them all the time, but anyways, they didn't ask)
What happens if I need to wear my glasses for the eye test?
Does anyone know how this work?
As far as I've been reading all over the internet Qatar is ok with glasses, but I'm a little scared about not having told the recruiters or having stated it in the forms.

If anyone knows what should I expect, or if someone has gone through this situation please please let me know.
Thanks!!!

Hi QatarWB,

Your eyesight must be 6/9 (or 20/20) either corrected or uncorrected. I think they prefer you have contacts if you must have your vision corrected.

Hi DoorsForDeparture,

You do your ditching drills in Dubai.

Hi!! I have received my "required photograph" email on June the 11st, uploaded them, and nothing happened until today!
I was really starting to worry, 4 weeks and no word from them :S but today I received an email advising me to start the medicals =)
So keep calm and wait, apparently they take their time.
Maybe Ramadan has something to do with this.

Good luck!
