Hmmm I don't think QF management are capable of giving mainline's routes away to their subsidaries are they?

Geez if true the fat cats in Hobart won't be happy being down graded into a Q400... It was mooted a couple of years ago that HBA would get the Q400 just after LST commenced ops. Qlink even sent the engineers down to HBA to do fuel panel training with the refuellers.

With that said there were some phone calls to the Launceston Jetstar Engineer from Qlink last year asking the question if any 717 GSE still remained as they were looking into running the 717 again into LST.

Could QF run a CBR-HBA Q400 service to compete with VA?
They not opened a new route for a while. ADL-NTL and ADL-HBA would they work with Q400s as well?

No change of equipment loaded in QF GDS as yet.

There is no "ewww" factor for our clients when it comes to the Q300/400 beasties.

The Q400 in particular is particularly slippery and comfortable and you don't wind up like a half shut pocketknife in the seats.

Still showing 738s as the aeroplane of choice.

Paxed in the Q400 a number of times, it shakes and vibrates like an old Valiant on cross ply tyres.

Much prefer to ride in the lovely Brazilian ladies over at fair maiden airlines.

But nothing beats the good old F-28!!!

Obviously you've never walked past the NAV1 station of a Draggie then and just for fun put your half-full coffee cup on the poor nav's desk to observe the fascinating standing wave patterns that emerge. Any more than half full and all the navlogs would get wet.

Paxed many a time between Melbourne and Adelaide on the Q400. Without fail every single flight I hear passengers complain to the staff at the gate, "that's not taking us to Melbourne is it"!? Even had a family friend swear never to fly Qantas again after the shock of seeing a plane with props flying them on their holiday to Melbs! Apparently it's ok to port Lincoln but not the big smoke!:E

If its all true, even with 717's it's aparante that a regular service may be replaced by a cheaper crew/ lower cost basis.

Might be a continuation of a trend this time with Cobham aircraft to keep a Kangaroo on the tail.

Why don't Q just bit the bullet rebrand Jetstar and be done with it. An amputation with a axe is better than slowly cutting with a pen knife.

Qantas adds extra Tas flights - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-07-16/qantas-increases-tas-flights/4132690?section=tas)

Qantas will add more than 1,700 seats to its Tasmanian sector in response to consumer demand.

From October, the airline will increase Melbourne flights to Hobart, Launceston and Devonport.

It will boost Hobart flights to 21 return services per week, up from 14.

Qantas Domestic CEO Lyell Strambi says the changes could result in cheaper fares.

"Whenever there's a demand for our services and we have a viable opportunity, we're going to expand our services wherever we can as a business and you'll see Qantas constantly doing that around the network," he said.

"Clearly there's opportunities here in Tasmania and we're there for Tasmanians.

"Of course when supply increases, for a time the fares usually do come down a little bit to increase that."

The Premier, Lara Giddings, says the increase is a boost for the state.

"This is a sure sign of confidence in Tasmania from the Qantas group," she said.

OK - the schedule is loaded.:uhoh::uhoh:

So much for complimenting the QF schedule. Shambles Planning has banged it plumb on top of the mainline 738 schedule.

DH4 MEL 1810 HBA 1935
738 MEL 1900 HBA 2015

DH4 HBA 0630 MEL 0755
738 HBA 0635 MEL 0750

Unless the capacity is badly needed on what are essentially higher yield times, then maybe an under utilised 763 would have done the job.

Must be some reasoning behind what seems to be a strange move - mustn't there..........i said mustn't......oh forget it. I should know better.

Interesting schedule at the moment

QF2148 0630 QFLink
QF1010 0635 Mainline
QF1012 0855 Mainline
QF1016 1650 Mainline

At the moment it is 0635 and 1650. I bet the 0635 will disappear. Be interesting to see if they try to put another couple of Q400's in to up the frequency. They will strugle against the larger jets but if DJ pop a couple in the whole thing could change. Early morning cpacity could well be an issue those flights around 0630 are often chockas

Simultaneous transactions abound.

That life support system for genitalia Giddings was espousing the benefits to tourism of flights that are at business time slots on the news tonight.

I have the T shirts ordered for the runup to the next election.

Looking at the Area 70 for today shows the wind at 18500, to be 300/70, it would make a nice slow trip northbound, add the usual hold at Wonthaggi it would be 95-100 minutes of flight time.

Going Nowhere

Flight time with 70kts on the nose - 79mins + holding
Flight time with nil wind - 67mins + holding

Somehow I think the DJ flight will be fairly full :ugh:

Re speed difference , the jets would be about 80 - 100 kts faster

That's a "HAS ONE AND IS ONE" shirt for you dog One?

Easy fix!!

I'll do the roight thing and order it now!

Gidding in DPO today opening the revamped airport building and claiming the kudos for the millions spent returning it to a security standard we had years ago with 96 seat 146-300s running through, and at various times 3 F28s on the deck at once. It was Federal shut up money after all, but the LSSFAC is grasping at straws. Can't wait for that last one.

That upgrade cost 3 pounds of stuff all and worked perfectly.:(

Still can't believe the scheduling. Having written the scheds for EWA and been heavily involved in the TN Coastal schedules, I despair.

Sigh

Flew on the Dash on HB-ML the other day. Strong northerlies meant the block time was 1 hour 40 minutes.

Counted all 8 from the gate as they priority boarded. My point is that QF are losing business passengers to VA as they replaced the overnighting 737 with the Q400 which can't compete on speed or service.

Strong Northerlies into Melbourne mean runway 34 only and 15-20 minutes holding is common. How much of the 1 hour 40 minutes was holding? It's likely that if the Qlink had holding, then so did the DJ.

The schedule times for HB-ML in the Dash is 1 hr 25, compared with 1 hr 15 for Qantas/J*/DJ (Velocity). I'm not sure that 10 minutes is going to make that much difference.

Don't see J class on any Dash 400 or 717.
