Have just replaced a 2 button with a 3 button - silly Q, but how do I 'activate' and allocate the middle button? P&P does not pick it up. (W98SE)

Have you looked under Control Panel > Mouse for the relevant option?

Did you get a floppy or CD with the mouse containing special drivers and software? Have you installed it?

CP has no options other than left/right 2 button
Mouse was 'cheapo' from El Corte Ingles in MAD with no disk - 'standard mouse'!!!

This is a standard PS/2 mouse? Does it have a brand name and model number?

One thing you could try - go into device manager and have a look at the hardware listed. What type of mouse does it indicate that you have? Standard PS/2 mouse?

Try deleting - uninstalling the mouse entry on this list. Reboot and see if it gets detected as being something different.

Thanks for your efforts, Stagger. No joy on the re-P&P: I am resigned to a 2 button 3 button mouse for now!

It is a 'MT-104' 'Basic' (very!) mouse, made in China for Media Tech.

Installation of standard driver under Windows 95/98/ME.

1) Right-click My Computer
2) Open Control Panel and click on System, click on Hardware and than Device Manager
3) Click on (+) beside 'Mice and other pointing devices'.
4) Right-click on the device which is listed now below (should appear in blue), and select Properties.
5) Select the Driver tab and select Update Driver.
6) Select Continue.
7) In the next window select "Display a list of known....." and click on Next.
8) In the next window select "Show all hardware".
9) You get two lists, on the left select the first entry (Standard mouse types) while in the right window you should select the driver for your connection (Standard PS/2-Mouse or Serial Maus), click Next.
10) After the driver has been loaded you click on Finish and the driver is installed. Restarting the system is not required also strongly recommended.

I doubt that this will cure your problem....

Sad to report both schemes have failed and I have emailed support at the German site for help.
