Is it a non stop routing? An 18 Hour flight seems very long for the sector maybe it calls in at DPS as has been mentioned on other forums.

It seems the route is Adelaide via one of the major airports, a different one on each day. The mel-adl, Bne-adl, syd-adl is via a Qantas 737!!

That explains the 18 hours from Dubai to Adelaide.

Kelpi,
Although it looks like a 737 but its spelt differently, 777. It will depart from dxb and flys direct to ADL. The 4.5hr time zone change makes the 18hr local time difference. EK Pax to ADL already do the Qf shuffle, so that's why its now going direct.

Departing Adelaide at 2245??

One bag search and they're into curfew... Sounds a little silly to me, or they're expecting automatic curfew exemptions.

I just tried booking at the end of November and it wants to put me on a qantas 737 from syd to Adelaide with the same emirates codeshare flight number as the international leg.

Next qantas will be employing Dubai flight attendants!!

From memory the block times during W12 are as follows:

DXB-ADL 12hr 20mins
ADL-DXB 13hr 10mins

The services are in the Res System.

Another nail for the QF coffin.

I wonder if the extra services to ADL and PER are to take up the demand from the ten pounders now that QF have cut back on LHR services? Can see the que from Elizabeth to the ADL airport now.

Kelpie, I promise you, they are direct flights.

Wonder how the pairings will work. Will the crew that arrivesThursday night depart Friday night, 24 hrs rest after a long night flight?

I wonder how much the SA Govt are paying for the service?

It will probably be a better "investment" than the Tiger ADL base.

Wiz, they will just write an Operational Plan and it will be legal because it is the Operational Plan. Jeez, how long have you been here now???

Goat's comments are quite valid. Have you looked at the rules relating to departures from Sydney? From memory I think they are not to be scheduled after 2215LT. The guidelines for Adelaide suggest nothing to be planned after 2230LT. Do Emirates have slots for 2245?

Ham,

Yes that's what's been done in the past- only to have the safety office wall-papered in ASRs in the cases of Houston and Bon.

Starry eyed optimism, but I thought they might have learnt from the experience!

If the SA govt gives them a big subsidy to get EK in the door, they will also bend the rules a bit re time slot for departure at or after curfew. They have been wanting a new airline to serve ADL for Soooo Long.

Jarden

The Feds control the curfews at all Australian airports where curfews apply while the slots are issued by another body in which the SA Govt has 0% interest (and probably influence.)

I love the fact that the pprune gurus question the planning abilities of the company that has proven itself to be the best in the business. I guess they could be wrong.

Ken, the text says curfew is 1330-2030z. Where is the reference to no departures to be planned after 2230 local? Also, The Curfew Act of 2000 states that provided taxi clearance is received prior to 2300 local the aircraft is allowed to takeoff. Exactly the same as Sydney, where both Domestic and Intl carriers have proven themselves to be very clever at manipulating.

Ramius,

If you don't know where to find the scheduling Guidelines I'm not about to tell you. Needless to say they are guidelines for schedulers. A wise and experienced schedule planner would be guided by them but only an amateur would schedule a 2245 departure when a curfew swings into action at 2300.

Wow Ken,

Do you spend your time in the playground running around saying "I know something you don't know, na na nana na" ??

I have operated, and continue to operate, flights with such schedules. As I said, there is nothing in the Adelaide Act that prevents a flight being planned to depart then, and I have done it many, many times (elsewhere.)

I guess you're my wise and experienced than EK though. And QF, BA, CX, SIA....

Ken, look at your beloved QF managers scheduled departure times ex Sydney. How many airlines on top of QF also depart 10.15 or later?

Even more stupid are 2245 arrivals into Sydney. Departures have a taxy time. Arrivals have no such leeway. Then again, in your bonus driven mahogany office, what would you know about how the coal face practically deal with curfews? Perhaps some of the low paid coal face staff deserve more than you know. If you were outside of your comfy bed at this time, you may be surprised as to what actually happens. All within the rules.

:ugh:

But keep preaching the virtues of AJ. What more do we expect from you? Those ek muppets use old technology triplers. What would they know. You QF managers and believers are showing the world how to run a real airline.
