Hi guys, I know this question has been posed before but after searching around the latest results I have are from 2008. Simple question, is the 150hr course still GST free? Especially if it is tied to tertiary education? If so, does anyone know where to find the relevant up-to-date GST article/document/amendment? Currently the uni lecturer's don't know, neither does the school and I'm paying the GST. I wonder if I can claim any of this back on tax

7. The following courses will be GST-free as a professional and trade course: (a) The integrated Commercial Pilots ( Aeroplane ) Licence ( CPLA )150 hour program conducted in accordance with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) Day Visual Flight rules (VFR) syllabus will be GST-free (this includes the theory and practical components of the program). If you are paying GST double check you are on the CPL150 and not the 200.
If they still insist on you paying GST you may want to consider another school.

NIK320: Thanks for the reply NIK320. I saw that one but wasn't sure if was superseded with something else because it was made in 2000.

TOUCH-AND-GO: haha nope it's another one but I'll keep my mouth shut

Only 2 years old..

From 1 July 2010, this document is taken to be a public ruling under Division 358 of Schedule 1 to the taxation Administration Act 1953.

Ah I saw that and wasn't sure what it meant (as opposed to the 2000 date). Thanks for clarifying!

Subject to certain procedure the 150 hr integrated sylabus is still GST free.
You must have a class one medical and sign a tax office document and be in an integrated 150 hr course.
