The three identical engines are Rolls Royce Griffon mk.58 V12s.
The 36.7 litre supercharged engines are capable of producing 1,960 horse power and are liquid-cooled.
One has no flying hours left and was removed from R.A.F. 8 Squadron Avro Shackleton maritime patrol aircraft WL745 1980.
Another has 62 flying hours remaining and was removed from R.A.F. 8 Squadron Avro Shackleton maritime patrol aircraft WL747 1980.
Both are mounted on wooden stands and are dated approximately 1952.

The collection will form part of Bamfords mammoth four-day Antique, Fine Art and Collectors’ Sale from 26-29 June.

Erm, I thought the Merlin was a sort of dead end whilst the Griffon was actually a follow on from the type "R" used in the S6b?

My dictionary defines "succeed" as "come next in time; follow after another", so the Griffon would certainly qualify on that count relative to the Merlin, though I would agree that it's basically a new engine.

Nice write-up from 1945 on the Griffin 65 here:

The Daily Mail suggestion of £10,000 each is way off the mark. I would suggest these engines will make at least double that when used in a non flying role.......

Shame they're so expensive. I've also fancied building replica vintage racer with an old aero engine.
