Just viewed (15.27) a low flying Chinook over Eastbourne, looked to be in Army colour. Any info?

Hi Daz,

The entire UK (apart from certain key locations) is classed as a 'low-flying area' and most frontline military aircraft are permitted to fly through it at 250ft 'minimum separation distance' (i.e. 250ft in all directions from vehicles, vessels, persons property and the ground).

From this link (http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/AboutDefence/WhatWeDo/AirSafetyandAviation/LowFlying/LFAs/) you can see that Eastbourne is at the bottom of LFA 1 (or possibly 18) so a Chinook (all of which are RAF by the way :ok:) may well have overflown you on a routine navigation exercise.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for your reply kharmael, understand the low flying now. It came in from the NW and left about five minutes later heading back NW. First time I've seen a Chinook up close and flying those rotor blades really give it a deep throbbing sound.

Best wishes
