Looking at the ghastly weather the Royals had to stand through this week (and the subsequent effects on the poor old Duke) one wonders why they don't employ doubles, younger fitter people maybe. After all they are "symbols" and "figuereheads" and considering their age it's a lot to ask of them to stand out in weather typical for a June day in London.

Taking it further, could the state cars and coaches not be fitted with animatronic robots to smile and wave ?

Or - perish the thought - is this already being done ?

Help! Britain faces shortage of Queen lookalikes - Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/9305438/Help-Britain-faces-shortage-of-Queen-lookalikes.html)

Good doubles of the Queen and other members of the royal family can earn up to 1,000 a day for personal appearances. Lookalike experts say that there are fewer than 10 very good Queen doubles in Britain, which goes some way to explaining the high prices they command.

SWMBO pointed out that the Queen looks even more like her puppet in Spitting Images than she did at the time.
it would be good to see a Spitting Images special of this weekend's stuff.

Best joke I heard this weekend was on the Andrew Marr show on Sunday morning, Rory Bremner was doing the press review and imagined Charles looking forward to the afternoon's events, muttering 'when is this reign ever going to stop?'
