This oxycotten(sp?)stuff they talk about on all American cop shows now?,seems to have replaced crack and smack for the baddies to get shot over, remember anything that happens in the Colonies always end up here eventually, what with the present economics situation might be a good business to get into on the ground floor as it were.

Canada has massive problems with prescription Oxycontin abuse in the northern Territories. So much so that the formulation has been changed to make abusing it more difficult. Some info here.

Heck, sounds nearly as bad as that infernal Dutch hospital anesthesia that went west-bound from Cloggieland to Britain to the US and the rest of the world...

In 1736, the Middlesex Magistrates complained, "It is with the deepest concern your committee observe the strong Inclination of the inferior Sort of People to these destructive Liquors, and how surprisingly this Infection has spread within these few Years it is scarce possible for Persons in low Life to go anywhere or to be anywhere, without being drawn in to taste, and, by Degrees, to like and approve of this pernicious Liquor."

its already here as an abused medical drug

from Oxycodone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxycodone)

"Hazardous use, harmful use and diversion of OxyContin in the UK commenced in the early- to mid-2000s.[83] The first known death due to OxyContin overdose in the UK occurred in 2002."

At least I think its unlikely to become the subject of illicit manufacture - raw material availability would be tricky (codeine) and the synthesis inefficient
The problem will be with redirected legitimate drugs

Just imagine how the UK balance of payments would improve if we went back to exporting Opium to China!
