Air Mauritius confirm to Rafael Epstein on ABC RAdio Melbourne 774 that a "suspicious item" was found on board the A340 en route to Perth from Melbourne

What was it? A dodgy item from catering?

Uncle Bruce and a load of export cosmetics?

Bomb threat. Landed R34 1458.

Noticed it tracked down R27 after arrival.

Persons with real intent do not make threats. But this sort of event allows the govt justify screwing us over.

You have to admit that it's a s:mad:t act though. I have a real hatred for grotty little bullies who turn up at the airport or get on an aircraft and start throwing their weight around making threats and scaring fellow passengers, even though they're 99.999% likely to be BS.

Maybe a reintroduction of the stocks might be an effective deterrent, they could be placed within tomato throwing range of the security screening queue. There could be a special set for Dirty Harry wannabes from the OTS...:E

Bit of a worry, they seem to have parked it over the western side of the airport, near the Airservices compound. I start working there on Monday

I have an image of someone in the tower saying, "You want to park it where!?"

Yeah Warrals, people like this should be publicly humiliated and punished to the max. Not because they are a threat to aviation security but purely because they are too stupid to be allowed anywhere near an aircraft much less travel on one.

We're lucky in aviation.
Employees in most industries that deal with Bulk Public have to listen to endless abusive complaints, threats of violence and tantrums from a minority of members of the public and smile sweetly while they are verbally and sometimes physically abused.

Modern business practice calls it 'customer service skills'. :yuk: Apparently it's unacceptable for staff to call :mad:wits :mad:wits. A bit un PC, because it's not their fault they're :mad:wits. As children they were once denied a second helping of icecream, so they're irretrievably scarred for life and we all need to Understand them. Meanwhile all the decent people in the queue fidget nervously and hope they won't have to either 1. wait too long or 2. cop a spray from the 'disadvantaged' bullying brat.

In aviation, when some douchebag fronts up full of self entitlement, rum and bad manners and starts throwing their weight around making threats, we're allowed to punt them off to the AFP as a security threat. Are they a security threat? Probably not, but let's cherish the oportunity. :E

Are they a selfish, bullying bastard who shouldn't be let loose in public, let alone on an aircraft where the crew can't just throw them out the door when they turn feral midflight (more's the pity )? Absolutely.

Machiavelli: whatever works.

And anybody see this one?

Trans-Atlantic flight diverted to Maine airport after passenger claims implanted device - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/passengers-claim-of-implanted-device-diverts-trans-atlantic-flight-to-maine-airport/2012/05/22/gIQADXEJjU_story.html)

They should have had me as the Captain, down to 10,000' and depressurise....open door and push the b!tch out!

Morons in future would think twice about such stupid stunts!

Gotta love the reporting on the Mauritius story. A fully loaded A340 with 180 people on board. I don't know much about A340s, but figure it would be a big plane and would do at least 30 seconds of research before using the phrase "fully loaded".

Pissed off because there's no way of leaving comments on the story :ugh:

Bit of a worry, they seem to have parked it over the western side of the airport, near the Airservices compound. I start working there on Monday I have an image of someone in the tower saying, "You want to park it where!?" You're worried??? I was at the centre! The bomb-parking area is actually a decent distance away so you have nothing to worry about. But we get an awesome view from the back of the learning academy. Atleast it kept us occupied during a slow afternoon, watching emergency services running back & forth. The reason why they taxi'd down 27 after landing was because they obviously had to close the runway that the plane was parked at, and there was such a massive wind that 27 was useless anyway. And grats on the job Steve. I'll probably see you on Monday

The passenger in question threatened another passenger who told the cabin crew that he had a bomb surgically implanted in his stomach, left side to be exact

Just reviewing audio tapes, crew state a swepps bottle found in the rear galley with BOMB written on it, relocated that bottle to the 4th rear right door.

A340 with 180 people on board ... using the phrase "fully loaded".You obviously haven't seen the typical MK passengers luggage. Expect to see 5 Plasma TV's, 3 lawn mowers, 1 motor bike, 2 bbq's, 1 kitchen sink, aisle 13 from Bunnings, and aisle 7 from Coles. And that's just the carry-on.

Hope the powers to be will be taking fingerprints on the item that was found, as lately we have security audits on airlines were the security personel plant items on the plane, and then rate the airline accordingly......LHR is a classic example

You moron! You think people do this for fun? Get a life! Capt. I am just saying that you should never assume malicious intent when a good old fashioned F:mad:k up will explain the situation, especially when AVSEC is involved.
Of course no-one would intentionally leave a training decoy on the plane after a dog training exercise, but when a foreign object turns up in the galley just after departure, it's one of the most likely scenarios that spring to mind.
if this bottle ends up having traces of ammonium nitrate on the label and the training room is missing a prop, then the puzzle will be solved.

Capt Fathom
23rd May 2012, 22:23
Sorry. Moron was a bit harsh! My apologies.

Your scenario, whilst possible, is way out there. It would involve a lot of people not doing their job.

More that likely, the person that did this will be on board again today.

Fair scenario, but they don't write Bomb on their training aids for just that reason.

Jumbo terminology....a 777 is a stretch of the facts..

but a 330, not even in the same class...

Soft Drink Bomb a "fizzer"

From the article:

However a Victoria Police spokeswoman today said no offence had been detected ‘‘due to an initial misinterpretation of foreign lettering on the print of the can’’.

She said the word was printed on the can itself and not handwritten, as originally reported by police yesterday.

The spokeswoman could not say what language the word was written in, or what the brand of the drink was. However police have confirmed no explosives were found in the can or on the plane, and no threat was intended.

It seems to me there should be a balance between being security conscious and jumping at shadows.

"Alert but not alarmed" anyone?:hmm:

This is security gone mad !!!! The terrorists have certainly done their task well, they have instilled fear in everyone the likes we have never seen before !:ugh:
They (terrorists) don't have to do another damned thing all they have to do is watch us become frightened at our own shadows!
I guess the Capt had little choice but to return but I sure as hell wouldn't want to have been in his shoes, tough call!

Just the other day whilst going thru the metal detectors at the airport on the way to my 'office' I got targeted by the umbrella Nazi's & had to dig it out of the bottom of my fright bag so he could open it up & see that it was not really the weapon of choice after I said I'll keep it in plain view whilst in the cockpit by placing it beside the crash axe !!!!:ugh:
The guy said he could be watched at any time from a Dotar's person so I guess he's just doing his job but man have we gone too far with all this??

with respect to the captain, and media useless as they usually are, the word "Bomb" was handwritten, they inspected it for any IED's, ovbiously not motion activated being on an a/c, so moved the can to an isolated part of the a/c being the forth right door, considering if the a/c exploded.
