There is also talk of greater frequencies between Francistown and Johannesburg, with new aircraft arriving soon - anyone know what they're getting?

Realistically I cannot see this schedule lasting.

They tried it a few years ago and canned it because of poor loads. It is winter and a bad time to start a new schedule on this route!

7 x a week x 80 odd seats a flt = 560 seats one way a week. Is there such a demand for a flt on this route? I wonder

Winter is the tourist season for Botswana.

A large number of tourists are visiting Cape Town in their travels, and then heading to jo'burg, then Maun.
I can see this route making sense, perhaps not daily, and not during the summer period.

From the end of March Air Botswana will no longer offer direct flights between Cape Town and Maun and plans to re-route existing ticket holders via Johannesburg through an agreement with British Airways/Comair from 1 April onwards.

The service launched in June 2012 and although initially operated daily, the service was quickly downscaled to four flights per week due to soft demand.

Customers affected by the cancellations would not incur any costs, said Airport Services Manager: Johannesburg, Nada Phoosolo.

"We will now look to develop our Cape Town – Gaborone route, which is already performing well and possibly attracts a better leisure/business mix," she added, noting customers could still connect to Maun via Gaborone or directly out of Johannesburg.

They should have waited for deBeers to complete it's move to Bots. Once that show id full on the road - there will be demand from the staff and their families for CPT.
