I have had the offer from a friend of a friend to do a painting of all the types I have flown so far in my RAF career and I am trying to find out some info the JP I went solo on at Cranwell (well, Barkston Heath actually after ccts at both) in March 1987.

The reg was XW367 but I need to know the fin/tail number as they did not tie in with the reg, for example XW323 had the fin code 44.

If anyone could help I would be grateful as, though I have loads of pics from that era none of them are of that important aircraft.

Many thanks in advance

Tonks :) :)

The code number was '26' - found in Peter R March's book of military markings, hope this helps.

Did my FNT to Valley and back in XW367 on 14 Jun 74! Though back then it was a straight JP5. Medium level to Moreton-in-Marsh, low level through Wales, up the A5 pass and into Valley. Then home via a high level leg down to cross near Daventry then back to Cranwell using the only navaid it had, Rebecca DME! I even passed!!

Thanks very much for that, its a great help.

Hi BEagle,

I never did pass a FNT on the JP though I tried twice. Forever destined to be a truckie. Can I come back by the way <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Not until you've got your A2!! It'd be great to have a mate back here with your enthusiasm - perhaps if you have a word with your desk officer and tell him that you want to do your A2, get back to the '10 and then stay in until FSTA comes in, you could be in-on-the-ground-floor??

Standards have obviously improved since then BEags <img src="wink.gif" border="0"> (Just Kidding!)

I couldn't pass my FNT on the JP5 at Cranwell either. The irony being of the situation being that I was subsequently an instructor at Cranwell 5 years later - assessing students on their FNTs!

BEags - good do last night, enjoted it immensely.

Tonks - get that A2!

Hi Dan,

Yeah, I'm on to that all ready.

I would love to go back to flying the JP now I have a slightly better understandingof what is going on. I think I was a bit of a challenge to the QFIs when I was a student. If any of my current students are reading this I will not say which of them is a challenge, you know who you are!!!! <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> .

Hope all is well Dan, email on its way latter.

Tonks :)
