Bonjour,

I have heard lot of different opinions on this so wanted to ask here.

How many hours do you need to realistically be upgraded to left on your aircraft? I have heared as little as 2000 and as many as 5000 on GLEX, 550 etc and as little as 2000 and up to 3000 on Challenger.

Is it tue Ryanair upgrade after three years? That would have them around 3000 hours I assume.

Insurance is the defining factor I guess but if the pilot is considered ready then are there acceptions? Appreciate feedback.

Merci

Depends on lots of factors - including luck and how bold you are!

I know of an instructor who was teaching a very wealthy chap to fly on a SEP. Client decided to buy a Citation X and asked his instructor if he wanted to be the captain on the X. Instructor siezed the opportunity, did 60 hours in RHS, and then to LHS, with no previous jet experience! I'd imagine the insurance is expensive.

You can get into left-hand seat of a GLEX with half the amount of hours: 2500 (http://latestpilotjobs.com/jobs/view/id/1462.html)

It depends on the operator - some promote by skill, others by time on a specific aircraft type, sociability or passport.
