Monday 25/3/02 CH4(UK) 20.00 - 21.00 'Salvage Squad'. .. .The last programme in the series follows the rebuilding of a rare Gypsy Moth biplane, as a tribute to its ill-fated former pilot, so it can once again take to the skies.. .. .Source: RT

10 days to rebuild a aircraft from a pile of bits. . .. .Hmmmmm..... methinks the credibility gap is widening. Still, it makes good TV I suppose, until some punter says 'Er mate, why are you still working on yours Scroggs Wonderbus rebuild after 5 years when Salvage Squad do it in 10 days?'. .. .But thanks anyway Spekesoftly, I shall try & tape it until it clashes with whatever the Boss wants to tape.

Who was the 'ill fated former pilot'? I was there at the time and clearly remember it spinning into the valley out of a steep turn. At the time I'm sure that I was told that the only serious injury was to the girl in the front cockpit who broke her legs.. .. .Stone me, was that really 30 years ago? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Great programme and an enjoyable series. They never claimed to do it in 10 days (months where mentioned), infact only a couple of the progs I saw where done in a time limit.. .. .Anyway, they did a lovely job, nice to see the old bird flying.

Great programme, well put together & made me nostalgic for the time I zipped round NZ in a certain silver Gipsy ZK AEJ. Oh happy days!

Apologies to all, 10 days/2 weeks seemed to be the norm in all preceeding progs. This time, they said it took 6 months, which is still very good going. . .. .Very interesting and enjoyable programme - I loved the method of freeing the seized engine. (Remove heads, heat some oil to boiling and pour into cylinders.) . .. .There were a few gems too - when recovering the wings it was important to get the fabric smooth because 'Smooth fabric means a smooth flight'. The undercarriage is the mechanism that ensures a smooth landing. I always thought that was the pilot.. .. .But the best bit was the grin on the face of the girl (Clare?) when she landed after her circuit.
