This has been asked on another forum and the owner has given permission for me to mine the huge breadth of knowledge on this forum. I decided to post it here rather than the spotters forum because its age makes it "historical".

The clip was filmed in South Africa either in 1965 or 1966.

I think there is a Canberra in there. This is gonna drive me nuts. Maybe a Vampire as well?!

Edit: Can't be a Vampire? Maybe that's the Canberra tail?

MB-326 Impala? But why would the tip-tanks appear so big? Just another thought.

My own opinion is that the first fin belongs to an Impala, don't know the middle one, and that the last fin belongs to a Canberra.

Noyade, your free hand drawing of the first tail looks like it could be from a Buccaneer.

My first reaction was 1 or 2 Meteors and a Canberra, perhaps. Now I'm much more doubtful.

Speaking as a non-expert witness but ... in 1966~74, I was living in the Pretoria suburb of Waterkloof, just the other side of the hill from Waterkloof airbase. Also, we attended many air displays and memorial services at the base's special memorial chapel as my dad was RAF and made many SAAF friends and joined the SAAFA. So I saw these machines overhead for many years in my teens.

I do't think that there were any Canberras or Meteors around but Impala and Buccaneers were all over the place all the time. On the balance of probabilities - they must score highly!
