Hi Guys,

I just bought a new Ipad and am disappointed that I can't get into the GABI. I tried the "Dowload HD" App, but that doesn't work either anymore. Is there a workaround for this?

Cheers

Download HD works fine for me. You just need to download the plan from archive where you get the save prompt.

Install free app called "download lite". Go to portal via that browser, open flight plan in gabi as usual, save to file manager and then open in good reader where it will remain until you decide to delete it.

Mmm....

Thanks guys, but I already tried those apps. When I click on the menu on the FOIP, the page just keeps refreshing. It worked in the beginning, but not anymore. Somebody else told me that they have also been experiencing problems lately.

Way easier to just leave safari open on the relevant page, go gabi via the portal home page and flt support svc etc, then once there the gabi option remains open.
Just select the plan, and leave it open, way easier than having to save etc in goodreader etc, unless of course you want to make notes.

I have that problem with the portal sometimes too. EGIT doesn't support Ipads yet so if anyone knows how to solve it I would be grateful.

Folks

I am using 'Downloader Lite' and have no problems downloading live plans for the future, as well as 'Archive' plans, which to me are history!

If you need some help, PM your 'phone number and maybe s/number (so that I can call when you are around) and I'll get back to you.

Slightly off topic-
Is there anyway to get TRIPS to work on either iPad or Mac? Other than via Crossover or some other windows Programme. Thanks

Never had a snag, just opened it in safari and used it as the reader.

try this...I had the same problem. Your internet connection is too fast if you have the 8Gb Elife service (or faster) from Etisalat. If you have a slower connection it will work (ie through a tunnel or ghost serf). You just need to slow it down so the FOIP page doesn’t have time to reload while selecting the GABI application from the drop down menu. No problem in Hotels etc due slower service.

Has anyone had problems with Downloads HD, when you either open it, or sign on to the FOIP, it shutsdown?
This happens about 50% of the time with me.

Easier sometimes to load the FPL directly onto the Mac, then transfer it to the Ipad

If only EK could convince the 50 gazillion iThingy users that Panasonic Toughbooks and proprietary tech from the 90's was the way forward....but hey, guess you gotta protect your investment in the finest minds Bangalore has to offer...

Using Downloads HD

Open the APP

Select the Browser at the bottom of the page

Enter the Groupworld address for the crew portal

Enter your staff number and passcode

At the FOIP home page, select GABI

At the GABI Homepage, select the Icon with the square and arrow-right, (just to the left of the address bar) and select ADD BOOKMARK

Select SETTINGS at the bottom of the page and CUT & PASTE the web address to the Home Page - Downloads HD is smart enough to know it ALWAYS needs to open the Crew Portal Page first for your 's' number and passCODE and will then automatically open the GABI page next for your 's' number and passWORD

After entering your details on the GABI Home Page it will open the page for flights as per the portal

Select your flight by tapping on the appropriate FLT number - it will highlight in blue

Below the address bar a new TAB will open called 'Flight Plan' - to the right of a Tab called 'Flight Opera....'

Tap on the Flight PLAN tab and get the page asking if you are retrieving for the flight crew - tap 'NO'

Then, tap the left hand TAB again and you will be back at the GABI page with the flight plan displayed or downloading.

With the OFP displayed, scroll to the bottom of the list of flights and under the heading 'Briefing Package", tap on 'Save'

A third TAB will open saying 'Downloading - ignore it!

WAIT a few seconds. A new WINDOW will soon open with 3 options, tap the middle one - 'DOWNLOAD"

The previous window disappears and another window will open called 'Add Download'.

In the text of the window is a complicated file name - just tap the blue 'Done' Icon at top right of the window - it will disappear in consequence.

A red bubble containing '1' may or may not appear on the Icon at the top of the page - a square with a DOWN arrow, (for downloading)

At the BOTTOM of the page, tap the middle Icon - "File Manager'.

At the top left of the next page tap 'My Files" and in the resulting list your flight number and date will appear, (or soon appear if it didn't finish downloading), as e.g.: EK_212_22Apr21012_IAH-DXB...

Tap on that and your entire flight plan is displayed in .pdf format and gorgeous living colour...

Works 999 times out of 1000!

If the APP closes itself after a few seconds of use, delete the APP, (hold your finger on the icon until they all 'wriggle' then tap the small cross which appears But ONLY on the APP you wish to delete).

Go to the APP STORE and 're-purchase' the APP and re-install it, the APP STORE will 'know' that you already purchased the APP if you are logged in to the store with the same account you bought it with. You will NOT be charged - a message will appear to say you 'already purchased and would you like to re-install?'

Yes - you would. The previous software was corrupted if it kept closing summarily.

I would assume that you are talking about gabi @ Ek . If its with another airline then it may be anOther issue.

You should not have a problem with download hd and download hd lite . Even you can use safari . A lot of ppruners have provided reasons and explanations .

One could be faster download speed and the second just not selecting the right things in sequence. One of our ppruners has taken the trouble to go through all the process. If this helps you , then fine,

My use of the GABI retrievable fom IPAD has not been 100% but I do eventually get the flight plan. So it should work for you

I use download HD LITE this is the free version . I also discovered that I could download the GABI VIA safari .

Safari option
Sign onto the portal as usual . Go to Fltops services then FOS applications then GABI. Depending in your broadband speed it may take some time open the pages.
Once You get to GABI, go to archive and then select insert the flight no you want e.g ek89 would be simply entered as 89 select find . If a flight plan is in the system, it will be presented to you in a screen just below the earlier selection. Selcect the flight plan by tapping the flight no. You will be presented with A choice to save . Select save Nothing will happen . Go to the top of the screen with the open book icon . Open it and choose history . You should then see ek 89 in history . Select it and you should have the flight plan . You can then read the flight plan there or if you have goodreader then choose to open in goodreader via the icon on the top right hand corner.

For those who have trouble going to GABI ,try via Flt despatch and then choose GABI . As some one earlier has mentioned ,it may be a fast Internet speed ( odd)

Hope this helps.

One guy I flew with had managed to get the Flight Ops CD onto the iPad, with a working menu.

Forgot to ask how he did that, wish I had.

Anyone know how to do this?

There are many ways to load the CD, the easiest/fastest method I have found so far is to use iTunes and Goodreader.

Load the cd on to your computer desktop.

Connect your iPad to your computer with the proprietary plug to USB.

After iTunes opens and sync is complete, click on your iPad's name under 'Devices' in the left hand column

Click on 'Apps' in the menu appearing along the top of the new page.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see a box with Apps that can load documents, select the Icon for Goodreader or any similar App.

Then click 'add' and highlight all the .pdf files you want to add from the CD, and then select 'choose'.

The .pdf files will load to your Goodreader App in just a few seconds.

Disconnect your iPad from iTunes

In Goodreader, open the .pdf file you want to use.

If there is NOT a menu available on the page that opens, tap the centre of the page to get the menu.

Tap the 'open book' symbol on the black coloured bar at bottom centre of the page.

In the box that opens, tap 'outlines' at bottom centre.

From the menu that opens, keep tapping the blue arrow on the right side to see sub-menus and when you find what you want, tap on the item you want to read.

The OM(A) is also searchable from the chapter index pages, tap on any heading in the chapter indexes and you will taken direct to that section.

Yada,

If you want a working menu for the EK cd on an iPad do the following:

1/ duplicate your complete content on your desktop into one folder
2/ zip the complete folder
3/ move the zipped folder via good reader as explained before to your iPad
4/ in goodreader click on the zipped folder to unzip
5/ delete the zipped folder, only keep the unzipped one on your iPad
6/ start the cd menu by clicking on the index file in the unzipped folder

I personally star the index file in good reader, so I can start it with one click.
You have to go through the zipped folder because goodreader does not accept complete folders, only zipped ones.

Hope it helps

If you are wondering why the App won't Save a copy of the displayed plan as a .pdf file in the normal manner - once the OFP is displayed on the GABI page, copy the URL in the address bar, select DOWNLOADS at the bottom of the App page, select '+' to display the Add window, then paste the copied URL into the address bar of the window and then select DONE. Next, select FILES from the bottom of the App page and you should find .pdf copy of your OFP.
