A question for the nautical types.

A few years ago, propane injection was all the rage on diesel engines, being that it acted as a catalyst in the combustion process, promoting amongst other things, complete combustion, increased horsepower.

Now it seems the old water/methanol system is making a comeback, has the same advantages as propane but at much lower EGT's.

Now, going onto marine diesel applications, such as the Volvo Penta IPS1200 and lower, would a water/meth setup bring the same benefits or are marine diesels too different?
