You must think its a joke,I only wish it was.Teesside must be the laughing stock-it has lost an Iberworld 320,Futura 738,BMI 735 and an
Eastern j31 over the last few days. The ILS is off at both ends to compound the problem.Might as well shut down and put us out of our misery!!!!

Its not the only airport to have run out of de-icer. I know one aircraft was stuck in Shetland for 3 days due to the same problem. In the end another company aircraft flew in empty with a hold full of de-icer just so the aircraft could get out.

You'd think it was winter - oh sh@t it is.......

A few years ago BA ran out at Heathrow, they cancelled a huge number of flights, allmost all of the short haul program and kept some long haul flying. Can't remember the date (or the year come to that!) but it happened.

If only the freezing ground staff would stop drinking the stuff to try and keep warm...

im sure im going to regret saying this but, "so far" this year ltn has not been coping too bad, other than a few occasions of de-icing rigs breaking down. guess you just pop down the road to halfords "2000 cans of your finest de-icer please" im just waitng for the forcasted snow to fall so that ltn airport can be really un-prepared.

A few(!?) years ago when I worked at MME, we used to get the young and foolhardy to walk/crawl along the Viscount and Herald wings with a sweeping brush to get rid of the white stuff. Surely in this day and age this could be upgraded to a Dyson? Who needs de-icer anyway?
(We've got loads at LBA - mind you, we need it in July)

...and then there is the latest JAR-OP that requires a thorough inspection of the upper surfaces of the aircraft IMMEDIATELY prior to commencing the take-off run. Looks like there'll be even bigger queues than usual down at the departure runway this winter.

I assume that each operator will provide a set of steps with a torch, magnifying glass and clipboard down at the runway, for use during the inspection?

Hi JetGirl

Gather you work for Flightline then. Trust me, it was no joke working outside in that weather. Several of us worked all day on the Friday and then overnight and all next day trying to clear the planes. As soon as we made inroads the blo**y snow came down again. BA were understandably reluctant to let us use their very meagre stock of fluid and our own de-icing rig broke down as well. Someone even went wing walking to try to clear the ice. We finally caught up on the Monday morning when the weather eased and warmed up a bit.
Titan had a plane stuck for three days as well and Danish Air Transport, Farnair and others were also stuck for a day or two. Of course, not to mention the 70 or so passengers that were stuck in the terminal all night on the Friday.
Must thank the boys at Scatsta for the use of their de-icing rig in helping to clear the planes.

Ah well, the joys of being a rampie eh!!!
