Saw in today's Punch newspaper that Amcon has taken over Arik Air.
Anyone with inside gen?

Right from the beginning, I guess. Well, some of us.
You start something up, run it for a decent interval, loading it with debt that allows you to strip the real assets, and then it collapses. Then you shall, in Nigeria at least, be lauded as some sort of brave entrepreneur.
I love the way we can read about foreign operators all over the place now so no work for young local pilots, boo-hoo, and on the very next page all about the troubles the local airlines are having. Gee guys, what is so hard about connecting the dots here? You are being taken advantage of in the most flagrant way! Running proper air services is not rocket science; we have been doing in the First World almost from the dawn of aviation. For that to work, though, you need a proper regulatory environment.
Nigeria has the people, it has had the planes, it has the money, even, at the top level. What could possibly be wrong with this picture?

Corruption.!!!
Corruption of the entire system, business framework, the whole picture. With corruption in the picture, every other reason for failure has its roots. someone posted of the merger between arik and aero. let me guess a new name for the airline "Nigeria Airways"

I think you came up with exactly what I was trying to guess at, yes.
Well, let's see what happens next, what that crazy lady you have running things comes up with as a solution to this latest, totally unforeseen problem. I mean, 'allowing obvious crooks to start up an airline with stolen money,' how could that ever have led to the present situation? Who should have seen this one coming from a long way off?
All of you who swallowed that stuff about Arik's glowing future, go hang your heads. Not just Nigerians there, but Boeing too! They played along with a perfectly straight face, didn't they?
Hopefully this time they'll run whatever airline results from this takeover properly.
Most people I thought realised quite early on that Arik was just a sham, this is an opportunity to develop something good from what was a bad start.
On a lighter note, Chuks Sir, you were said to be one of only two people who was able to land down Runway 06 at Osubi in the 328 JET slow down and make the turn off to the ramp.
Used to watch and admire then. :D

Arik is still done the most any Nigerian airline has done in a long time, from social responsibility, to nation wide reach, etc. If AMCON's taking over will change and improve in the area's they are clearly lacking in, Nigeria will have a true airline to be proud of.

Looks like the reports are false. Looks like folks can go back to paying for downfall of Arik's and be extension the negative fallout to Nigerian aviation as well.
Chief Executive Officer of Asset Management Company of Nigeria, AMCON, Mr. Chike Obi, yesterday, denied media report that AMCON had taken-over the running of Arik Air due to its indebtedness running into billions of naira.

I just used to watch and marvel from afar, rumour had him pegged as a 328JETmeister, don't know how he'd have fared in one of our whirlybirds though :)

The last ride I had in a helo, they let me have a go. When I left the hangar they were still trying to straighten out the collective after the way I yanked on it! Horses for courses, and all that.
It's a funny thing, but I was contacted by the guys who bought those ex-Shell 328Jets, but then it went all quiet. Whatever happened to them?
