I rode a bike into the old burleigh tunnel with my grandfather when I was about 12 yo , he took a photo and did an oil painting of it. Can't remember what the date over the entrance was but it was in the early 1900's might've been around 1905. He also did a painting of the old shops at the bottom of the hill where Fleays fauna reserve was. I think the tunnel was where the highway runs now.

AS, you have done it again, although the harsh critics of pprune never miss a trick, they fault my photo's......now they pick on your train set :}

I guess you can claim not to be a Railway Artist, and get away with it. Whatever you do dont miss one VHF antenna on a Boeing now will ya:ok:

They will roast you :uhoh:

Thank you all for your compliments. Pianoman...yes,it has been a while since I posted,but I have a fear of cluttering up pprune. Howard....loosely based on Avalon,but I had a B727 driver see the painting and he was convinced it was Mt Isa,so I guess the'airport is in the eye of the beholder'.Worral...I agree,never seen an ugly B727.

Metalman.....the date was 1903. I did a lot of research into the tunnel on a railway forum,whew! railway enthusiasts are fanatical. I'd love to see Grandad's paintings,can you stick some piccys on this thread? Reubee....the a/c is departing rwy34,most of the cross strip is obscured by the a/c. Touch and Go.....a PM is hurtling your way. Wally....I didn't sell the missus. She kicked me and my paintbrushes out. I spent years sitting in Brisbane main street with a cardboard sign 'WILL PAINT FOR FOOD'

Brian and Forky....you are both correct,thanks. I'm sure I have some railway ties in the shed and 37 cu mt of ballast will fix that. I'll work on those today and post a piccy here when done,please check back. As they say 'never take the ballast for granite'

AE

Is there a web site where we can see all your paintings? I really enjoy them especially from the 60s, 70s and 80s

Thanks

Hello Animal, I too have a passion for the nostalgic stuff like the old radial airliners.I haven't gone down that road of a website,but I do have a lot of my paintings right here on Pprune. Just click on my user name,then 'view public profile',then 'statistics' then 'Find all threads started by Aye Ess'. There is a lot to browse through.

C'mon, there are plenty of techo's on here that could set the man up a website (probably for the cost of a painting!!) I'd love to see all aye ess's stuff together. SOMEBODY DO IT!

There might be those whose taste in art is more inclined to the
highly atmospheric . . .. . not only that but where the portrayal for instance captures to perfection a dramatic setting in which the artist has placed his subject.

The sheer brilliance of aviation artist Frank Wooten comes to mind. So too the great Australian marine artist John Alcott whose graphic representations of square riggers were set off perfectively by his skill at capturing the texture and the mood of the seas in which they were set.

David Marshall's stunning impression of Catalina Frigate Bird 11 sailing the mighty seas off Easter Island is another case in point.

His repertoire is huge and diverse. His purchasable A3 size prints are magnificent. They can be found on his website.

My first encounter with his work was seeing hanging in Nancy B W's sitting room at St Ives a breathtakingly beautiful impression of the Lady Southern Cross passing through broken cloud with the Harbour and the Harbour Bridge some two or three thousand feet below. You could not help thinking 'Ah . . he's got it!'

I've been working on the railroad. Thanks to Brian and Forky,I have installed ballast (that's them rocks between the sleepers) and the railway ties (that's them bolty things what hold the rails to the sleepers)
